And don't even mention aphids. I lost an entire pumpkin patch to a major infestation last year. They were doing so well too.

I really hate cockroaches, and they used to freak me out but i lived in FL for a long time and i am not freaked out by them unless they crawl on me while sleeping. Then all bets are off. I have squished them in my hand. Gross! With all our rain lately, we've seen a couple of big water bugs, really giant cockroaches. I can't deal with those, they fly and make me squeal like a ninny. One crawled over my bare foot the other day as I was changing the brooder water for the nth time. I squealed (big surprise huh?) and did my best dancer's high kick and flick.Bug sailed right into the brooder. Chicks went insane! BIG game of chase! Stupid bug, dead bug. I made my first kissy noises to those little biddies then.
But no, I'm still not a crazy chicken lady!

I just bought a butterfly net at dollar store. Use them on young chickens and bugs. There were tons of hoppers at that wreck site i was stuck at the other day. We have very little grass here. I have not seen many hoppers or crickets here.If it helps any I just ran around the orchard chasing grasshoppers with a homemade net to feed to the chicks. I am no spring chicken but it felt good getting them buggers. Chicks loved them too
Nice those wasp were busy.View attachment 1070645 Aaawww. I had aphids and their shepherd ants last year too. This year I got proactive with lady bugs. Even my beans are virtually aphid free this year! And the braconid wasps have finally found my hornworms. Last year they were awful and I bet I picked half a coffee can in an hour. Here's a pic of one of the four or five I've seen this year.
Great idea. I actually googled them to see if I could get one. Cheapest was 12$ so I decided to stick with homemade one. I'll stop at dollar store and see if they happen to have any.I just bought a butterfly net at dollar store. Use them on young chickens and bugs.
