What did you do in the garden today?

I hate that she has all those issues. We are rooting for her. It must be tough on you.

I sometimes think it's even harder for my husband. It's been a long road for me to understand that ... being in bed in pain ... well it's not a lot better than not being here at all.

That's why we're here in kentucky. I can be in pain, sometimes pretty incapacitated, but with CHICKENS. Not. even. kidding.

The sunsets, the hills, the trees, the baking, the garden, the house building, the trying so hard to help it hurts. A lot. And the chickens. All of those things make it worth being here, despite the challenges.

Is any one else worried about the Roundup in our food supply? Makes me wonder if that is what caused my IBS. Even if you bake your own bread, it is probably in the soil. Farmers use way too much of that stuff. Someday all that soil will be useless. If people only knew what is in the food, they would not want to eat it. These big companies disgust me.

We selected land that had not been farmed, is far enough away from other farms to avoid drift, and is high enough not to get hit with run off, so yep, we were concerned for sure.

My mom doesn't get why we are growing "the hard way" - no chemicals, all natural, losing a tenth of what we grow in some cases. But you get it : )
It's pretty cool to control what you eat. In a year or two we'll be closer than we ever have been to that goal.

I was so depressed when we lived in FL, felt like I was ready to die. Now that I am here, I just feel so much better. Not everything is peachy, but I have so much more purpose in life. I suffer IBS as well. Guts feel like there are rocks in them most of the time. Way over weight, next thing you know I will be diabetic. But I am hoping I can lose some weight in this heat. Worked once for me in TN, but I got depressed during winter and gained it back. Yes, the chickens are amazing. Don't know when I will be able to get some but hoping this fall. Miss my girls. Have you ever had goats? They are wonderful. Missing them too. But I am working towards getting some.
