What did you do in the garden today?

I wish it would rain here. It's VERY dry right now. I prefer it raining to me having to water the garden!

I'm getting ready to put my fall radish crops in the ground soon where my onions were. I might try to amend the soil a little with some sand first. It's not the best soil right now.
I also gotta get my potato boxes filled in more. I am falling behind on some things. I'll be really hauling butt this weekend to get stuff done.

In a perfect world, it would rain hard maybe every 2-3 days - just enough rain so we don't have to water out in the garden, but of course, this is NOT a perfect world. Hauled gallon jugs this morning to water the cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower where hubs didn't get the soaker hoses placed yet. We're a bit behind, as well this year, and having a few physical difficulties doesn't help matters any. I'm hoping to plant all the pumpkin & winter squash plants that are on the porch, out into the garden this weekend. They're more than ready & I think the vine borer moths should be done laying their eggs by now!

This is the baby changing table I found $15. It was exactly what I had been looking for. I was so excited I left the box with the bed frame!

The 3 drawers where I'll plant chicken friendly feed are on the left side opposite the shelves.

The hens seem to enjoy sitting up there to eat. Less fighting with the ants.

You have a great imagination! I'm not so clever to come up with an idea like that. Really cute, and I bet they'll love it when you have it planted out with goodies!

OOOH! That kind of Petit chou is much easier to manage.

NanaKat: I see you have Colombian Wyandotte. How do you like her? I ordered some this spring, and almost cancelled them b/c I thought they looked dumpy compared to the other breeds I ordered. I must say that those CW are the biggest, beefiest, prettiest birds that I ordered! They are not very friendly, but they are BIG and gorgeous!

I love my Columbian Wyandotte as dual purpose...besides being a tasty meaty carcass, they are great layers, wonderful mothers and warm up to you the more time you spend with them. I have several who follow me around and offer suggestions on what I should be doing....one particular hen is named Talker. I have had them since 2009 and am one of 7 breeders with a flock registered with the Wyandotte Breeders of America. I'm sure there are others who are not part of the WBA group. From where did you order your CW? The color variety is hard to maintain...but type is supposed to be a round basketball body with a broad back.
Here is Beauregard and a few of the young hens. I raised Beau from a chick born in 2012...he was a great rooster....true to the Standard.

Finally caught up. Y'all been busy! Coop roofing has been giving us fits. HE miscalculated, so I've had even more wood to paint. Hottest three days of the year so far and I'm trying to paint in it. Doing good to keep the garden watered and alive in this. Got some of the fall seedlings and transplants in. Pulled out the last of the bush beans and started new ones. Little biddies loved the plants thrown to them in their temporary digs, as well as the buggy tomatoes and some cucumber trimmings. HE has watched some ChickenTV and I think he's getting hooked. He even has a favorite bird! A red sex link that is feathering in in racing stripes. He has a thing for blondes.

Bought one watermelon plant and got 2 free. Harvested some Echinacea seeds. Slept in today till noon! I was dead tired last night. Drove to Lynchburg to get a load of rough cut slabs. It rained on me but I liked it. Very humid here. Stopped at Goodwill and found some good stuff. Did I tell you I found a small stainless milk pail for $5? Got to the hardware store 10 minutes before they closed and bought some mistinted paint. The roads were very busy today. Saw three deer at once, a fawn by itself, a rabbit and a ground hog. I am tired after hauling all that lumber. Wish I had a bath tub. By the time I got done shopping it was hard to get everything in the truck. The kittens escaped the bathroom again. Who knows what they were up to while I was gone? Did you know that Granny from the thread here on BYC had a major heart attack ? Her husband , who has a bad memory, drove her there. I don't know why people won't call 911 when they need it. Anyone heard from Jen? I hope she is feeling better.

Thank you, but it wasn't really an original idea. actually saw so many beautiful ones on Pinterest, had been looking for a China cabinet or a dresser. It's just being open to the possibilities.

I would find a piece of furniture, walk around to see where I could put what I wanted for the hens. So when I ran across this wrapped in plastic at our local Angel View Thrift Store (support angel view children's lives in and day support for handicapped) I knew I couldn't pass it up.

Don't sell yourself short, you just haven't had the opportunity to put. It to use.

I was out of the loop for a while. Fell asleep over my dinner last night. HE miscalculated/mismeasured and my metal roof panels are about 3 inches too short! Oh well, I'll find a use for them. Or buy more later. So meantime I had to paint a LOT more wood for the roof. Thankfully I had almost a whole roll of roofing felt stashed. Just going to do 1/2 inch exterior plywood on the roof for now, covered in that felt and painted. Figures the three hottest days of the summer thus far and I'm out in it.

@black_dove2 That looks very posh! Nice idea! I am searching for a chandelier for my coop. HE thinks I'm nuts. He's not alone. I want my coop colorful and glamorous enough for my avian divas. I've got a few accessories standing by that he hasn't even seen. Can't wait to finish the construction phase and move on to decorating!

I do hope Jen is ok. Probably very tired after the last week. Granny is in the hospital. Please everyone send her positive thoughts, healing energy, prayers.

Yes! I've seen a few that I would like to put solar lights on but I've no where to hang.

I've settled on my barbeque area adding all kinds of lamps and candle holders then attaching different solar lights to the tops

Please post your progress photos when you get chandelier out and start working on it. I'd live to see them!

Back to gardening I've been looking at the hanging by strings plants. They use a dirt ball with Moss. I was thinking about hanging the chicken friendly from the tree in the run
