What did you do in the garden today?

I'm so very glad that the snakes that we have are well behaved. They do not invade nest boxes.

But, oh I hate it when I'm harvesting, and I have a spider run up my arm. Or run in the holes in my crocks. Or how bout the other day, when I was picking raspberries, and I had a hornet fly down my shirt. He didn't like it down there, and let me know several times before I was able to squish him. I then stripped off my shirt and sent hubby inside to get a baking soda paste for my stings. Oh how I'm so very glad I live in the country, where topless is an option without stopping traffic!

One of the most memorable "dances" I've ever seen was when I was a teenager. My dad was working in the shop. He always wore coveralls. A mouse ran up inside his pantleg.
I had a hamster run up my pant leg when i was driving one day!

Before I go to bed, a story about my mother in the 60's. Picture Barbara Stanwick from Big Valley and you'll have a pretty accurate idea of my mom back then. 4'9", bouffant 60's platinum hair piled 16" high, tiny little doll of a woman, dressed and groomed just so. She's terrified of lizards, spiders, snakes, mice, all that. When my dad was stationed in the Air Force in Peurto Rico, we lived off base in a pretty duplex on stilts. My mom tottles in the font door in her tiny spike heels one day and feels a lizard plop off the door frame onto her perfect pile of corn silk hair. She screams and starts swatting at it, hits herself in the head, hairpins fly, she's screeching like a Banshee, and then dead silence. She's hit her head on the door frame and knocked herself out. Slides down the wall like a dead fish. :lau:th

Got cortizone shots in both knees today, so hopefully it will kick in soon so I can get back outside and start accomplishing more. Hubs picked tomatoes in the greenhouse and got 3 large bowls of tomatoes. Mostly plums, but also some slicers and a few cherry toms. Since there's not really enough tomatoes to turn in to sauce, ketchup, or something else to can yet, I'm thinking about making a pot of tomato basil soup with those plum toms. It is a family favorite, and everyone wants grilled cheese sandwiches to go with it. Yum!

Got back from my sister's home around 3:30. I had thought about canning up taco sauce. Walked in the house and hubby was chopping peppers....so it was soup starter instead. Another 14 quarts finished at 8:30. Will make taco sauce Saturday. I still have another 100 pounds of tomatoes to use up thanks to our local farmer.
Fed the calf a bottle and locked up the chickens and ducks...then dozed off in my recliner with my iPad.
Headed to bed now.
