What did you do in the garden today?

I just got a call from work. I am walking out the door to head to the base and be on way towards Huston. All the babies will be well looked after by hubby, family and neijbors.

If you are in Texas. All of us are praying for you. If you need help or rescue please wear bright colors if you can and get up on your roof!!! If you have a second floor hang something bright out of your window of the room you are in. I need to run out the door. Can someone please copy and paste to Hurricane Three. I need to run.

re posting from hurricane thread please read re post if you know a place to

Chipped all the aspen saplings I thinned out of the woods to add to the DL run and garden. After reading a BYC thread on Aspergillus, I let the trees dry for a month and stripped off the leaves, just in case. Picked a peck of peppers to make a mash to use for hot sauce. Raised some hot ones this year. I might throw a ghost pepper in one batch of mash. Burned some seasoned hardwood for ash to use in the dustbath pits.

Love the hardwood ash for their dust baths.

Have a couple of purple cayenne's starting to fruit. Hope they get big before our first frost. Have them in a big pot next to our back door, full sun, and I can bring them in at night when it gets frosty.
Hoping to make some purple hot sauce.

What did I do in my garden of death today?
I ignored it! :lau
A few days ago we scored a pallet or so of veggies and fruit from a friend in the bizz.
Traded some to neighbouring farmers and fed our animals good for days...

SO TODAY I AM CHEATING using someone else's garden stuff!

I hand selected these plumb toms and counter top ripened them. Today I have been reducing them down, making tomato sauce. I am using my own grown basil so not cheating totally.
Been cleaning brooders most of this rainy day. Dodging rain and stirring tomatoes.
Amazing how a basket of plumb toms reduces down to a tiny bit of sauce!
I post more sauce pics shortly!
Nice reading all the posts and finally having something garden related to reply with!
:celebrate

That's an incredible haul.

Today, I pulled poison ivy by hand until the deer flies started buzzing me. Have showered with liquid dawn, sent my clothes to the laundry room. Will wash them in bucket of hot water with soap and ammonia before they go into the washer. Tools have been scrubbed down with dawn. Next step, go out in comfortable clothes and get some layers of cardboard down over those spots, followed by leaves and wood chips. Those vines have traveled about 8', since I tackled that spot about 2 months ago.

I wish there was an unlike button to push for the poison ivy! I am getting itchy just thinking bout it..
