What did you do in the garden today?

My go to seed source is Atwoods. At the end of season all seed packets go in big baskets and sell for 20 packets for $1.
Picked a few tomatoes this morning.
I don't think we have Atwoods in VA, but the drug store did the same thing. I have been watching it rain. Stuff may actually grow now!
Nope, closest Atwoods is in Arkansas. Looked it up. Hoping TSC will do a better discount, only 25% off now.

I've been doing a little seed shopping online, but suppose I should check the local stores for any sales like you guys mentioned - would love to find 20 seed pkts for $1.00!

Me & hubs spent the weekend cleaning/winterizing the coop and attached pen. Looks really nice & comfy, and we only have a few minor things to finish off. Also need to paint the trim on the outside of the coop as well as the garden shed. We've come to the conclusion that our chickens are definitely spoiled...

Oh the glory of a seed packet. To hold it in my hands, see the pretty pic on the envelope (if it even has a pic) read the promise on the back. Shake it, hear those tiny little orbs rattling against the paper, and realize that each of those orbs, or what ever shape they may happen to be is capable of providing a meal for my family for a day, or perhaps even a week! Or even gracing my table with a beautiful bouquet! Nope, no intervention needed here.

I finished with the compost, the pile is twice the size again. All small mesquite limbs are added, a bunch of christmas tree limbs and needles, litter from the coop and miscellaneous yard waste. Planning to chop some aloe that's overgrown and add that too.

Put some bricks around some bushes to prevent root damage from dust bathing. Poop board installed, fresh litter in the coop, and the littles had some free time.
It's windy but our high is only supposed to be 88 today. Beautiful weather and my yard looks like I got something accomplished.
Have a great day :frow

Pulled a few weeds this morning, then took a trip with 80 year old SIL to a residential campus where her daughter lives. She is 57 today and is a mentally challenged adult. We took her out for a birthday dinner and had a lovely visit. She then told us it was time for us to go home...she had a party to attend. The other residents were throwing her a birthday party complete with the cake her mom had made! :lau
Hugs and kisses all around and we made our way home.
So pleased to see this child so happy at this wonderful facility.

Soaked the plots really well yesterday. Santa Ana, "Devil", winds are predicted for this week which can desiccate any plant in short order.

I don't miss the Santa Anas much. They did used to blow out all the smog and the sky would be blue for a few days.

Had our first autumn frost last night, so we had to do the annual ritual of frantically bringing inside all potted plants that we want to keep alive till next spring. Always fun - NOT! Also covered the pumpkin patch and the sparkler marigolds in the whiskey barrel on the deck, trying to keep both alive a bit longer. No more frost predicted for at least a week, so should be good for now. I'll check the pumpkins & marigolds a little later to see if they survived.
