What did you do in the garden today?

Thanks so much, it's good to be back. Our naughty cat, Ozzy, knocked the modem for our computer off the side table and it landed on the heater and melted it! So my computer was down for several days. Why can't he behave like our good cats?

After reading over the days I missed, Chocolate Mouse, those pans your sister gave you sound awesome! Really happy for you (and a little jealous). What a great gift you received!
Cap, the greenhouse looks so cute. I don't know where you find all of your energy! Also the pics of your raised beds look great, too. Do you have spring bulbs planted in there? How have you been feeling lately, last I remember your ears were bleeding. How is your hubby doing, are his ribs healed up?
Nice to see you back! My cats broke my CPap machine!
Yes, i have tulips and daffodils and crocuses planted!
I am doing ok but i fell on my knees while carrying my cat . I tried to step over the dog and my foot hooked inside my pj bottoms leg and down i went! That was weeks ago, but they still hurt. I think i bruised some bones. My ears are good, thanks for asking.
Hubby still is tender, but he is back at it. No keeping a good man down.
Today i have been working on a rabbit cage and waiting for a call from the vet so i could pick up my cat. Kiss is back home now and nutless!:gig

I remember the naughty cat days, our rescues are so old now they just sleep 22 hours a day and the only excercise they get is the walk back and forth to the litter box and the food dish.
The 20 year old parrot on the other hand, is not to be trusted. He especially likes to remove zippers from clothing and dismantle anything mechanical. We finally found a lock he can't pick...
A bunch of us neighbors are getting together this weekend for a produce/seed swap. We all grow and raise different stuff and swap our surplus. I'm trading some venison for 6 rabbits, and we have a lot of native prairie seed, herbs and heirloom peppers & tomatoes we hope to trade for squash, beans, flowers and herbs we don't have. Our friends from Circa Plants will have samples of some of their heirloom veggie seeds as well.

It will be nice when Ozzy sleeps all day - keep him out of trouble. Lol - that's so funny about your parrot, I didn't know they were so intelligent. Have to check out circaplants, sounds good. I've already spent a lot of time at Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds website (same as rareseeds, I think?). I really love all the neat varieties they offer.

Apparently African Gray parrots have the intelligence of a 2-3 year old child. He is certainly devious enough, throws tantrums now and then and talks better than a two year old. He imitates me and my wife so perfectly that we have been fooled into thinking the other was talking to us. He has picked up an inventory of wild bird calls including a perfect wood thrush, and has many annoying sounds like the #*%! beep of the smoke detector.

MUST. HAVE. SEED. CATALOGS. I don't know why they are so slow to come this year.

I notice a trend of some seed and garden catalogs to go paperless. Good for their bottom line and the environment, but they will miss a demographic I think. It costs a lot to put together and mail out a catalog, and with more people going online to shop, companies are abandoning paper catalogs as they see less and less return from them. You might want to check and make sure they are still mailing paper and that you are updated on their list.

You can't take a computer to bed with you.

I agree, not the easiest thing to do, but there are options. I slipped over to the dark side when my wife got me a Nook reader because she was tired of my avid reading habit generating endless piles of books around the house. I can download just about any book I want, and I have discovered that almost all my favorite newspapers, magazines and yes, catalogs are available to download on this device that is about the size of a paperback book. I can take my whole library with me anywhere we go. I just downloaded a prairie flower catalog. It is perfect for bed, and with the nighttime backlit screen setting, you don't need a room light on to read. They have really come down in price too, $79-$149 for various styles. We got my 90 year old Dad one for Christmas a couple years ago, and it wasn't long before Mom wanted one too. I really thought I would miss the feel, smell and sound of paper, but I have to admit this thing has solved a few issues and it fits with our goal to go paperless whenever possible.

Sounds like your parrot is a (fun) handful. What a hoot! Have you had him all of his 20 years? What's his name? Is he real friendly, like does he sit on you, like to be petted, things like that?
