Sometimes BYC stops giving me notifications for threads updating and then I go to look for them in my alerts and it's not there and I forget to post. Which is sad. I like talking to ya'll.
Today I got my corn and some carrots in the ground (a little late). My beans, radishes and spinach are all planted. I have my potatoes sprouting, my tomatoes are getting big, my basil is overwhelming me in quantity. The oregano that @deepbluesea sent me is doing surprisingly well. My peas are sprouting well. My leeks are still tiny and I'm not sure why. I started them very early and they're really thin still. Probably a crowding problem, I haven't trimmed them back. My peppers have all kinds of uneven growth. My kale is too leggy. But over-all things are growing well.
We almost have the newest garden bed finished. It's going slow, but we're getting close! I also started to edge my beds because they have gotten deep enough from additions of compost, mulch and soil over the years that they can no longer just be mounds. So far it's been going well. I am weaving thin sticks together into a sort of terrace wall around them. There's also been a lot of weeding and mulching with straw. Every time I till somewhere the squirrels come through and dig as well. They don't eat anything, they don't care about the peas and beans and such I plant, they just wanna dig up nuts. They toss the peas and stuff on the top of the soil and move on, then I have to go re-plant them.
The bed I dug last fall is a little sad and clumpy still, despite lots of compost and even a bag of sand. I think it's just going to take time and a lot of leaf humus and root building such.
I'm starting to tan up a little too. Lotsa sunshine this past couple of weeks out of nowhere so I am being liberal with the sunblock. Spring came soooo late, so everything is go-time; gotta get it in the ground ASAP in between the rains. It'll be drying up before you know it. (Though I now feel the need to point out that spring is actually right on time here; we got our last frost right before our last average frost date and not even a frost warning after that week. It's just that for the past 5 years spring, especially the warmth, has come early and we've had record breaking highs for so long it's strange to experience a "normal" time for the seasonal shift.)
