What did you do in the garden today?

Sometimes BYC stops giving me notifications for threads updating and then I go to look for them in my alerts and it's not there and I forget to post. Which is sad. I like talking to ya'll.
Today I got my corn and some carrots in the ground (a little late). My beans, radishes and spinach are all planted. I have my potatoes sprouting, my tomatoes are getting big, my basil is overwhelming me in quantity. The oregano that @deepbluesea sent me is doing surprisingly well. My peas are sprouting well. My leeks are still tiny and I'm not sure why. I started them very early and they're really thin still. Probably a crowding problem, I haven't trimmed them back. My peppers have all kinds of uneven growth. My kale is too leggy. But over-all things are growing well.
We almost have the newest garden bed finished. It's going slow, but we're getting close! I also started to edge my beds because they have gotten deep enough from additions of compost, mulch and soil over the years that they can no longer just be mounds. So far it's been going well. I am weaving thin sticks together into a sort of terrace wall around them. There's also been a lot of weeding and mulching with straw. Every time I till somewhere the squirrels come through and dig as well. They don't eat anything, they don't care about the peas and beans and such I plant, they just wanna dig up nuts. They toss the peas and stuff on the top of the soil and move on, then I have to go re-plant them.
The bed I dug last fall is a little sad and clumpy still, despite lots of compost and even a bag of sand. I think it's just going to take time and a lot of leaf humus and root building such.
I'm starting to tan up a little too. Lotsa sunshine this past couple of weeks out of nowhere so I am being liberal with the sunblock. Spring came soooo late, so everything is go-time; gotta get it in the ground ASAP in between the rains. It'll be drying up before you know it. (Though I now feel the need to point out that spring is actually right on time here; we got our last frost right before our last average frost date and not even a frost warning after that week. It's just that for the past 5 years spring, especially the warmth, has come early and we've had record breaking highs for so long it's strange to experience a "normal" time for the seasonal shift.)

Glad to hear it @ChocolateMouse! I'm ripping out more and more oregano, because that stuff takes OVER. Your beans are about three inches high. :)

My strawberry plants had horrible sets--maybe 50% took hold. They're from Johnny's--I've never ordered from them before and likely won't again. I'm going to call them this weekend and see about getting replacements.

On the other hand, Baker seeds are doing great! And I ordered blackberry, raspberry, blueberry and dwarf mulberry plug starts from them. The mulberry and raspberries just shriveled up and died. I called them and they apologized, replaced them immediately and added a 'white' blackberry extra to boot. Good customer service rocks.

The first snow and snap peas are starting to form! My lettuce, spinach and purslane are going great guns, though my tatsoi is bolting. It's weird, it looks like a sprouting broccoli once it starts. Tastes pretty good, as well. Always something to learn.

Watering/fertilizing the veg and flowers. The tomato plants both have several flowers and everything is really starting to grow. Turned the composter thing and I like it. It's easy to deal with and smells good. The girls have been busy in the compost pile and it's all over the place again. Was too busy last weekend to get the barrier put up but hubs is getting it done this weekend.
We are having a nice cool day here, only up to 75* today but it's supposed to be 105* by Sunday :thI'm ordering some shade cloth, tape and grommets, time to put more shade over the garden.
Have a great day all :frow

I have always had bad luck with broccoli but at the end of last year my coworker told double lime the area and I’ve seen his broccoli. Nice! Unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to try it this year

I have always had trouble with brocco too. I'm not sure how to fix it. You could try adding a micronutrient mix with a bit of boron to the soil just to make sure you're not missing anything... But also check what variety you are using. Some varieties head up better than others. Some are a little leggy deliberately so you can cut the head off and it'll regrow new heads easily. It's hard to remember sometimes that they're a bundle of flower buds.

Morning all may get to add some things finally have not put tomato in the soil it is in in the green house soil is not warm enough now I am have never heard of purslane please educate me I do grow pepper, arugula and several forms of lettuce all coming up fine
