What did you do in the garden today?

I always use inoculant on peas and beans . About 8 bucks for a packet but enough for several years . Not saying it is your problem just throwing the info out there .

Reading up on companion planting.

I spent much of last week removing raspberries from a large bed to make way for more productive plants. That will be an ongoing battle I am sure since there is no way that I got all the roots.

I repurposed an extremely oversized nest box into a raised bed approximately 4'x2'x2'. Thinking cucumbers, cabbage and radish in that. Yes it will be very tight. Just 2 cabbage and the cukes on trellis with a few radish. There are just 3 in my house so we dont need a lot.
I will be moving plants from a 10x10 flower bed to make room for sugar baby watermelon and maybe cantaloupe.

I may be to late for more beets but will try anyway.

Still trying to figure out how to get a decent harvest from this clay soil.

I have been adding the manure, leaves from every tree in the hood, some sand, and home composted chicken leavings with wood chips for 18 years.
It all seems to disappear in the clay. It is very frustrating. That's why we have moved to mainly raised beds.

I still want the tomatoes in ground so I dig gigantic holes and add more cow manure and even potting mix in those holes.
I never expect to grow carrots in ground here.

Carrots don’t happen here till I built my 12” tall raised bed. 4x4 decdicated to carrots. This good ole red Virginia clay is a pain.

I planted some more herbs in my raised bed.
I planted watermelon, cantaloupe, honey melon, egg plant, cucumbers and eggplant in my wicking bed. And in my 25 gallon grow bag in a kiddie pool I planted lettuces and bunched onions.

It just stopped raining here. It is supposed to start back up and rain on and off the next couple days.

Looks like I will be getting muddy.
