What did you do in the garden today?

Yesterday we had slow, steady rain for a while. The plants always look so much happier after it rains.

The yard is still damp so I raked up the poop without a dust bath. The chickens are out foraging and the dogs are on the patio with me.

Todays agenda includes watering the stuff in the covered garden, I don't think it got much rain through the shade cloth, and hopefully digging a few holes for some plants that need transplanting.

Have a great day :frow

I finished pulling out the aloe today and transplanted some to the west side of the garden, same exposure. The ground is really hard and the aloe will help. I'm going to fill in with some cactus and succulent soil near the plants and yard dirt around the edges after I use some red bricks to make a border. The pavers are from a walkway we had and this way I don't have to throw them away.

I'm going to put in yellow bells, a hibiscus and lantana where the aloe used to be. Hope to get that done this weekend too.

Hi friends. Hurricane Florence bitch-slapped the area, but we came out of it relatively unscathed. My son, cats and dragon and I evacuated to my bf's about an hour and a half inland. I locked my chickens in my shed with a ton of food and water, as planned. It was HARD to leave them. My neighbor decided to stay and she made her way over to check on them for me on Saturday--the amount of relief I felt when she told me they were all ok was huge.

They were a little freaked out when I let them out on Sunday, but within a few minutes they were pecking around contentedly.

I lost most of my pine tree, so that's coming down tomorrow. My overgrown hedge laid itself flat in the wind, partially on the AC unit. This wasn't a problem until yesterday afternoon when the power came back on. Man do I love hot water and cool air! A few shingles, but nothing damaged the house or shed. We got really, really lucky. I know several people who lost their homes, and the rivers and creeks are still rising above flood levels through the weekend.

A lot of clean up, and it's hot, so it's going slowly. I've been working half days, then cleaning half days. It's exhausting. I'm glad to hear about others doing well. This was a bad one.

Got all my garlic in today. Started pulling out the pepper plants and the tomatoes. Discovered that the jack rabbit that has taken up residence in the garden has topped all my carrots :rant. Harvested the most delicious raspberries and made raspberry scones for the family, yummmm!!
@deepbluesea, I am so glad to read that you and your chickens are doing well. It's going to take some time to get back to normal. That storm was a beast!

Oooh, glad you're safe Deepbluesea!

This past couple weeks I've been sick, so no gardening for me. :T But soon I'll be ripping out some blighted tomatoes and planting lettuces, radishes and cover crops.

Ooh, sorry to hear you've been ill! Hope you're all healed up.

I'm looking forward to planting some seeds this weekend; it'll be relaxing. I just need to chainsaw some of the branches laying over the raised beds...
