What did you do in the garden today?

We had pretty bad flooding this year from our creek. I'm debating turning over some of the dirt and plopping in some sunflowers. It's clay soil, but the creek deposited a bit of sediment. Am I just wishful thinking or are sunflowers pretty tough? I know they grow awesome here with loosened soil in the garden....
There’s only one thing I dislike about Sunflowers...Hawks! Yep all birds love SS and hawks love to come and eat those birds.
I created myself a lil’ hawk buffet.:rant
All though..I do want to grow a few well placed Giant SS for ... fence posts yep that’s right. I had one last year grow 12’ the stalk was as big as my fist. I cut it down (4’) and then got lazy and just left it didn’t dig it up. Good thing I did. A grommet ripped on my tarp and Volia!!! Perfect post to tie down tarp. Held well. My ground is so rocky & hard I’m already getting spots ready for where I need to grow some “Posts” I’ll cut them before they seed. :thumbsup

8.5 hours out in 75 degrees. It was amazing! OC I can't feel my anything. I crammed in a bunch of work that has to be done outside to include walking 4 acres of hay and pasture fields killing cedar trees. 4 acres in six foot wide rows. That's a LOT of walking. I didn't find any antler drops, which is surprising. I did find a few ground squirrel colonies. and TWO HUGE holes that are probably a badger, who eats ground squirrels. Neither are welcome as they leave hole for me and the other critters to fall into.

The clover in the yard is starting to come up gangbusters and some of the lawn/pasture is starting to green up. We will have to replant about 1/3 of the pasture due to flooding/mud. All 7 will have to be aerated, but I'll do that next week.

Last fall, before the leaf drop, I marked questionable orchard trees with color coded zip ties. I replaced two red marked ties as they had too many branches that didn't make it through our impossible winter. The orange and yellow trees will get until July to prove themselves. I replanted two trees and fertilized and mulched them.

I love the feeling of going to bed tired from a hard days work. Honest tired.
