What did you do in the garden today?

@RenoHuskerDu, thanks for clarifying. As I mentioned earlier, I am mentally impaired. I have a hard time understanding things sometimes.

I'm going to start building my garden soon. I just recently moved to a new house, and I have to make some raised beds.

There are some great videos on the Old Farmers Almanac site about building raised beds and gardening in small spaces. Last year when I built mine I used chicken wire and cardboard on the bottom of the beds before I added the dirt. The cardboard smothered the grass and weeds then fertilized as it biodegraded.

Oooh, I started thinking about all the critters we have...
Wood ducks, king fishers, owls, raccoons and skunks of course, gophers, turkeys, coyotes, chicken hawks, vultures, deer, otters, peliated (sp?) woodpeckers, humming birds, squirrels, voles, moles, snakes...ok, getting into common critters, gonna stop. The dog only stops barking when shes asleep.
I went out on the deck one night and about had a heart attack when an owl swooped right over my head, completely silent. I guess I startled him too.
I have a lot of those too. Bears, wild turkeys, deer and skunks. Also I saw a weasel once. I try not to think about them all.

That happened to me also. One day I was hunting, going for quail. I was going through some thick brush, what all the sudden I see this very large bird flying out of the corner of my eye. I did not hear it, it was flying very silent. It startled me, and when I finally got a good look at it, it was an owl that I accidentally woke up.

Hi all,

Not much gardening right now :barnieI haven't been able to get outside all week! Too much happening after work to make any time out there productive in any way. Plus, it's been a bit on the warm side in the late afternoon. Tomorrow no work and the morning temps have been perfect. Can't wait to get out there again!

Oh, I have flying predators as well but they aren't a problem in the garden. The big pine tree across the street in my neighbor's front yard is the nesting place of choice for a healthy pair of hawks. Not positive what but very large. Last year they hatched triplets, I'm hoping for twins this year. Then there's owls and eagles.

Watch those hawks ... like a hawk. Here's what they did to one of our Faverolles. It was a sad evening.

Except for firemen. We are so nice we put our lives at risk for y'all.
Yes...yes they do. Thank you. Thank you to all first responders. There’s great honor in choosing to serve and save those who are in danger or crisis.

I have to agree. I have great respect for all those who risk their lives to protect ours. They do so much for us, they always help us, they always protect us from danger. I actually had two experiences that are pretty interesting about this.

Yesterday, I was driving down the street, there was a lot of traffic, when all the sudden, a motorcyclist behind me was doing a lot of dangerous stuff. Breaking multiple laws, being extremely dangerous.

He was either really drunk, really high, or really, really reckless.

When I hopped on the freeway, I saw a sign that gave information on how to report drunk drivers. I called the number, and reported the drunk driver. The officer on the phone immediately got the information out, and they went looking for the guy. I could tell they were grateful that citizens call these things in so danger can be stopped.

The second experience happened in 2017, I was fishing, when I caught two fish tagged by Idaho Fish and Game. I went to The Fish and Game office, and reported the tags. They told me that they were very grateful for Anglers who take the time to call in these tags.

Yes, we are very grateful for them, but sometimes, they are grateful for us.

In a nutshell, I'm grateful that we have all these people doing things to protect us.

I won't be planting anything outside today. As promised by the local meteorologists, the winds are wicked bad right now. I finished up my rooster's bachelor pad and will move him tomorrow. My little BR chicks are only 22 days old now but they have about 75% of their feathers. So I hope to move them out to the brooder space in the big coop in another 2 weeks. That gives me a little time to focus on the garden. Windy again tomorrow then rain on Friday. I'll move the mulch closer to the garden today and maybe get some put down tomorrow. Happy gardening everyone.
