What did you do in the garden today?

Love the arch and gate. Once you get some greenery in your beds it’ll really stand out. Nice :thumbsup
Thank you. Last year it was pretty but a bit unruly. I think it will look much more neater like this. Since this garden area is visible from the street I want it to look nice. My neighbors enjoy it as well.

I was watching youtube about squash bores . Seems planting cucumbers around your squash helps confuse the moth that lays the eggs . Also resistant squash like butternut , cushaw and small ornamental gourds . So helps your summer squash .
I had a lot of squash bugs last year around the summer squash and the cucumbers but none at all around the butternut. So The squash bugs were being confused by the cucumbers? That would make sense because I actually saw the bugs but there was no damage. This year's rotation I'm planting summer squash in the same bed as the cucumbers so that should be good. Very interesting.

Squash borers and squash bugs are different . This is for the squash borer .

Do the spears turn green when you cook them? I've seen pictures of purple asparagus, but have never seen it in any stores around here. It looks yummy!
Nope...this variety stays purple after cooking some do not. I cannot remember the name sorry. But I do remember researching it before I purchased starts. The thing that I found out is that the purple asparagus grows bigger and quicker than the green...and they are much more tender. They are not as woody or as tuff as the green when the spears grow large.
I ordered the starters from Burpee’s online.

That's interesting. I'm still on the fence about whether or not to plant asparagus. I haven't figured out exactly where to put a dedicated asparagus bed. I like the idea of growing it quicker as our growing season here is short enough.
