What did you do in the garden today?

How old is your tree? We let ours grow fruit when it was ready and our yields are better every year.

It's about 4 years old. It was really small when I got it and while I was bouncing around from place to place after I sold my other house this little guy went to live in my office where I worked. He spent a year there and pushed out 3 lemons. They never ripened but I picked them and used them and they were pretty good. (maybe it's really a lime tree?) I just re-potted it last month and it is getting a little healthier now. But right now he is only about 18 inches tall. I repotted him in miracle grow potting mix so he shouldn't need more fertilizer yet, correct?

Hello,

I just finished talking with my landlord. He gave me permission to do a garden. However, I am limited to a 12 foot by 18 foot space due to the size of my backyard. Hence, I am limited to four 4 foot by 4 foot boxes, and 1 4 foot by 8 foot box.

So, I'm planning out my vegetable garden. I'm planning on doing cucumbers, zucchini, peppers, tomatoes, and corn in the big box.

I'm planning on building the boxes sometime this week or the next week. I'm going to be using the Terra Preta soil I mentioned earlier.

You can produce a lot of vegetables in that much space. Consider growing swiss chard. It grows well all summer long and you can eat it fresh or cooked. My chickens love it too. I'm excited for your new garden.

Happy to say I was able to get some work accomplished outside. I spent most of the morning printing off my W2's and 1099-R's, etc. to mail my taxes off. While I was eating lunch one of my contractor's showed up to install the new threshold where they removed the wall. It looks amazing. I gave him a dozen eggs for a tip. But I did manage to bag up some yard waste that I didn't want in my compost pile. I built a new 5 x 5 compost pile area at the edge of the woods behind my garden. I put cardboard at the bottom to smother the weeds. I plan to toss the litter from the chicken coop there when I do the Spring clean out. This will be convenient to toss garden waste into the pile as well. I cleaned up the patch where the daylilies are coming up too. The weather forecast for next week appears to not include frosty temps at night, so I may put my seedlings out soon. I cut some branches from the forsythia bushes and arranged thein a vase of hot water. They should bloom in a couple of days. I might try this with the azaleas. I have to save some energy for the chickens so I think I'm done with the garden for the day.

You should be ok. A fertilizer specific to fruit trees in the future will help.
Our tree is older, it was about a foot tall when we planted about 7 years ago. It's at least 5 feet tall and wide. They like to grow almost like a bush here. I just trim any crossing branches and suckers from below the graft each year.

We fertilize with citrus tree stakes as we've had the best results with them, but our tree is in the ground

That's really healthy looking. Mine is a "house pet." The winters here would kill it. I may let it outside for the summer. My backyard directly behind the house doesn't get all that much sun in the summer so I think it might do well. The deciduous trees make for lots of shade. I have plenty of chicken wire to keep the squirrels off of it. But from what I've read these little trees like to get a nice gentle shower from time to time.

Yes they do. I will use the hose and give ours a rinse once in a while, especially after it's been windy and dusty.
