What did you do in the garden today?

You think garden pests are confined to bugs, critters, viruses, but my kid:love:hugs has become a pest! Kid keeps picking the not-quite-ripe tomatoes and peppers and bringing them in.:thumbsup Just think of the excitement that they experience helping you. Not a huge problem bc they will ripen on the counter. However, we planted several varieties of peppers and tomatoes to see which we like. When they show up inside, we don’t know which are which! And when asked, kid says “I think it was second from the end... oh wait, maybe the one next to that...” <sigh>
They grow up sooooo fast,,, and then they are gone:old

Not looking forward to yet another week of 90+ and humid. I need to move to Greenland!
Hydroponic Gardening is common. You will have to develop Iceoponic gardening there'

So in about 2 days this happened:

Tomato has completely wilted. Is this a virus? We did water it in case it was dry - and I had not watered it bc the tomatoes looked fine and I try to deep water less frequently. I suspect a virus or something. Any ideas?

Other tomatoes look good. Even the tomato next to this one is fine. It is a different variety. The same variety as the wilted one is in another bed - also fine.

Now for the tomatoes on the plant. I think they need to have at least white shoulders to be able to ripen on the counter/inside. Anything with color is also going to ripen. But there are small/less developed ones on the vine too.
Look at the base of plant near ground, and check to see if anything chewed the stem.:idunno
Pick all those toms and keep them on the counter. Consider using them as a "fried green tomato" recipe. I know that tomatoes not vine ripened are not as sweet. You have other tomato plants to provide you sweet ones:thumbsup

Good morning gardeners. I have not been tempted at all with the "Fall Chick Days Sales." This last integration has been such a PIA that I'm not sure if I can do that again. Good grief @Acre4Me I'm so sorry about your tomato plants. I agree with @cavemanrich that it may likely be a critter. Perhaps a gopher that nibbled at the roots. My garden is still doing OK. I picked 3 yellow squash and a zucchini this morning. I have a few pounds of squash in my refrigerator so I'm thinking I should make fritters today. I managed to get the grass in the backyard mowed yesterday. We had a brief downpour the previous evening and the grass was still wet at 2:30 in the afternoon. It was so humid I had to take a few breaks. I still don't see any signs of butternut squash babies. I'm getting a bit concerned. The bees are buzzing the male flowers but no signs of any development. Laundry is on the agenda today, but I'm hoping to get some of the weed whacking done. It will be hovering around 90F the next few days so I'll be taking it real slow. Have a great day everyone. :frow

Hi I’m new to this thread but I just wanted to share about my garden stories. It seems in my garden I have little to no bees and I don’t know why so I have to hand pollinate the majority of my plants or else they rot. Also I had no idea how aggressive pumpkin were it seems like they’re trying to go after my cantaloupe and starve them from the sun. I planted them far apart but it seems the one pumpkin plant is now everywhere, it’s giant. My cantaloupe just can’t compete the same as the pumpkin so I have to baby it. My squash the majority of this year have rotted because of poor pollination so haven’t gotten as many as I’d like. My tomatoes are doing okay, they take forever to ripen. And my watermelon seemed stagnant for the whole spring but have all of a sudden taken off and producing watermelon.

Welcome @Top Rooster

I have to hand pollinate my summer squash - and I have a lot of bees! I overseeded the lawn with clover to attract them & now all the flowers are flowering but I still have to do the squash. Bee's aren't doing well in our world, you may need to plant for them if you aren't.
Well I guess it’s not that I don’t have any bees, more like what bees I do have they prefer my crape myrtles and rose of Sharon trees more than my squash flowers.
