What did you do in the garden today?

Wow. When life seems difficult, I sometimes remind myself that people live where there are scorpions or plentiful poisonous snakes. Now I have to consider living with Buffalo burr!

We did, though, take out an entire hillside of honey locust brush last summer. Dried and wound into small circles, it is used in churches for the Crown of Thorns on Good Friday. Thorns up to 1 1/2 inch, but of differing length, that can penetrate work boots.

You have my deepest admiration!

Good morning gardeners. Wow, we got the thunderstorms yesterday. I let the chickens out a bit earlier than usual because of the approaching storms. After a couple of rumbles of thunder my Randy got all the girls inside and waited for me to give them their dinner. It's so nice to have him back in charge of the girls. The garden is doing well, although the blight on the Roma tomatoes seems to be worsening. They are still loaded with tomatoes and some of them are even starting to show signs of ripening. So I'm hoping for the best. I picked another 1/2 pound zucchini this morning and a yellow squash. I'm hoping to pick up my car today and still have a little time to mow the grass in the front yard. I feel so fortunate not to have to deal with gargantuan weeds @WthrLady. My biggest weed problem is the prolific poison ivy at the edge of the wood line. I just cover myself up and hit it with the weed whacker once a month. That keeps it out of the backyard at least. Have a great day everyone.

They can penetrate tractor tires.

Tordon. It kills everything. And I mean everything. You have to be careful with drift and runn off. Use it on the longest stretch of dry days that have no wind.

Wow, yea so glad I dont gave weeds like that here! They sound awful!

Buttoning things up to be gone for the weekend, feeders are full, water buckets cleaned & filled. Garden watered. Picked a couple cukes, going to make a batch of refrigerator pickles tonight.

The blight got my squash too, its just starting to come back after treating so hopefully I'll have squash in the next week. But that copper fungicide did a good job on the tomatoes, stopped the blight in its tracks. I just hate to use stuff like that though. But last year the blight decimated my plants so I felt like I had no other choice. If I don't 'see ya', have a great weekend, may your gardens be productive! ;)

Good morning gardeners. I finally got my car back from the repair shop. I have a brand new gas tank and gas line. Although that tank is nearly empty. I didn't get the grass mowed yesterday, but should be able to do that later today. I found my sweet BR that I named "Princess" hidden behind the feed can nesting on three eggs. I removed her from her nest and took the eggs. Later in the day she had laid another and was sitting on it. I think I have a future broody hen. She is so sweet, but has only been laying for less than two weeks so she needs more time before she can brood for real. The garden is fine. It's a bit of a race to hope I get at least a small harvest from the Roma tomatoes before the blight destroys the plants. One of my tomatoes in another bed is starting to ripen. Yay! I picked another yellow squash and noticed another baby butternut developing. I'll be making squash fritters this weekend now that I remembered to pick up some onions. The weather this past winter and now has really been hard on the gardens. I'm hoping for a better weather cycle to start this Autumn. Good luck with your gardens and have a great day.

The bush beans for drying, grown for use in soup, are starting to be ready to harvest! So pretty!
