What did you do in the garden today?

I just get the olives from a can or jar. Have no olives to process or pickle, since they do not grow here in my area. I'm sure I would enjoy the different recipes(of prep) that individuals prepare their own ways.
I always get black olives, when I order a sandwich at SUBWAY. They fix it to your liking with condiments. I also do like it on Pizzas as an additional ingredient. Green or Black.

Good morning gardeners. Hope your gardens are doing well. I think this is the first day in a while that I haven't picked any squash. I did get a cucumber and some more cherry tomatoes. Despite the "blight" on the Roma tomatoes, they seem to be on the road to ripening. Still no buds on the pole beans yet. Welcome to the thread @IamRainey and @perchie.girl. You sure have been busy catching up on your garden @IamRainey, your garden beds look great. Best of luck for a great harvest. Deb, there are varieties of figs to suit different climates. I have a fig tree growing in a large pot that spends the winter in the garage. This is my first full year with it and there are no figs yet. I should get some next year. Have a great day everyone.

I'm back, had a great weekend.

Welcome to the newcomers! I love this group.

I hate olives. Blech. LOL

Those stupid lemon cukes have taken over & squeezed out my regular cukes. They taste ok, but I can't really see pickling them, which was the point of cukes.

My Romas are turning red & I'm trying to decide how to can them. I've never tried freezing them first, then doing a big batch, but I'm considering it. Does anyone do it this way?

I also read some people don't peel, they just use a stick blender - sure would save a lot of work but I wonder how it comes out. Anyone tried that?

The Brandywines have a pink tinge - yay! & I have quite a few watermelons now. The squash didn't fare well after the powdery mildew so they aren't producing any flowers or fruit. Next year I will go back to traditional vines & skip the bush variety.

Oh, I have a fig tree that's about 7 years old now. It spends the winter dormant in a cold room, covered so it gets no light. It produces figs.

I also have a giant grapefruit tree in a pot that is about 30 years old now. It looks great but never flowers because I cut it back. That survives in the mudroom with temps down to about 32.

Hi @Sueby. I've frozen the whole tomatoes in the past, however you do need to peel them first. Since I use primarily sauce in everything, I just make sauce with no added ingredients aside from a little salt and vinegar / or ascorbic acid. I have a food mill which in my experience is so much less work than anything else I've tried. The food mill removes the skin and the seeds. I cook the tomatoes then run them through the food mill then cook them down some more. Oven roasting the tomatoes is good too, you get a richer, sweeter flavor that way. I hope this is helpful.

Is it a Brown Turkey Fig? I was so excited after this last winter it was still alive. How long did it take to get your first fig?
