What did you do in the garden today?

I’ve mulched with wood chips. The other day I was out in the strawberries pulling some mulch aside so a couple of runners have a place to root! (I planted bare root berries and over half didn’t make it.)

Otherwise, the soil stays damp, and occasionally I wish for a few weeds so I would have something to do out there!

Not often, though.

I too have a mulched, 8 inches deep, garden. Any weeds that pop up, slide right out.

Yes so would I fed bolted arugula and two non producing cabbage plant to chickens
brought in a small zucchini and 2 jalapeno warned the Son he was watering funny moldy dirt in my brussle sprouts but thunder and lightening made me come in before I could get it out of there

Picked green beans, fresh basil and fresh parsley and took it to my friend along with a cucumber that I picked yesterday!
At her house we canned 2 batches of elderberry jelly and 2 batches of peach chipotle jam.
She and her husband picked the elderberries themselves when they were in Arkansas visiting family this week. The peaches they bought in Cave City, Arkansas. They were delicious!! They also brought home 11 watermelons from Cave City. They say they grow the best watermelon! It was delicious!!
When I got home I cut up the long branches of the invasive honeysuckle that I cut down yesterday. After it dries out some more I will burn it all in the burn barrel.
Then I turned the sprinkler on the garden for about an hour. We haven't had much rain in the past week.
I have a bunch of other tree types of branches that I need to feed through the wood chipper to make more mulch to put on my garden. I don't use the invasive honeysuckle for mulch because it seems like it roots way too easily and if I miss a big piece, it starts trying to grow a new bush!
@IamRainey thanks for the compliments!
@Wee Farmer Sarah have you tried peach chipotle jam? This was my first time ever hearing of it, making it, or trying it. It was/is really good. With a bit of heat to it.

Good morning gardeners. First I want to apologize for any confusion regarding the canners. @WthrLady I thought you meant a 4 quart canner not a canner that could hold 4 - 1 quart jars. That would make that canner about 10 or 11 quart in total volume. @Sueby the suggestion for a canner that would work on an electric glass top range was meant more for @trumpeting_angel. The one I purchased is safe to use on the flat glass top stove if the stove has a "super boil" ring feature. Had I not found this one I would have gone with an electric pressure canner. I'm sure it's tasty but I have not tried peach chipotle jam @karenerwin. I use jam on my toast in the morning and I'm not ready for that much of a kick that early in the day. I prefer preserves because there are bits of peach in it. Store bought preserves are good, but really don't have that burst of freshness you get with homemade product. Busy day planned. I picked a small yellow squash and some more cherry tomatoes earlier. I need to start processing the cucumbers to make pickles and while they are "stewing" in their salt bath I'm off to get peaches for preserves. Have a great day everyone and enjoy your harvest.

Did second round of dry bean harvest, and now I have approx 4Cups of dried beans. There are more pods on the plants not quite dry enough to harvest, and they are flowering again! I planted a single 9 ft row of each of 3 kinds of bush beans for drying, so am happy with the outcome!

The pole beans are flowering like crazy, and the earliest flowers have decent sized pods on them. These are also for drying.

Finally, more peppers are ripe! We planted 12 varieties hoping to find at least 2-3 that we liked. There is one, so far, that we would plant again, but have only tried peppers from 4-5 of the plants.

Melons looking good. One was turning orange, so I touched it to roll it slightly to see the side color, and it popped off the vine! Looks like it needs a few days of counter ripening.

Picked some soybeans for the first time. They look plump, so am hoping they are good eating. Boil in salted water for approx 8 min, then pop out of shell into mouth = edamame.
