Yes, they have oyster shell, thanks for the suggestion tho. Rose doesn't have much stress in her life except she gets the crappy end of the roost as she is low man. I think she just had a little glitch. Hopefully shes fine, shes my jumbo/double yolker!

Ran in to an elderly neighbor I haven't seen for a while at the market today. She invited me over to pick apples and pears.

Red pears were far past prime ,winter pears are small.

But brought home 2 heaping bushels of apples for drying and pie and chickens winter feed!

And went to Iowa to pick apples today. Needless to say, I'll be processing apples all this week.

I took 6 apples we had pork chops tonight apples where close to going so
apple sauce apple pie taste cooked them down in my old cast iron skillet spooned into jars

Good morning all. Nothing was ready for picking this morning in the garden except for this surprise - big radish had popped out of the soil. I thought all the icicle radishes I planted were gone, but surprise, surprise. The leaves are looking quite healthy as well so I'm thinking a little green salad will be on the menu soon. I was in my basement starting the laundry and took notice of my canned goods. I really don't need anything tomato anymore. There's so much of it. It didn't seem like I had such a big harvest of tomatoes but I sure have a lot of tomato products sitting on the shelf. So would I be bad if I composted what I can't give away? The chickens aren't all that crazy about them. I could do a couple of jars of regular salsa with my own jalapenos and bell peppers then use them as gifts later on. I would just like to move on to the apple products and drying herbs then wrapping things up for the season. The last of my vegetables- the leeks, winter squash and green beans are less labor intensive. I should not complain, sorry. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning gardeners. I got a lot of painting done yesterday. Just need one more coat on a small part of the wall. I was also able to start painting the trim. It's so nice to look at walls that are not brown. I picked a few tomatoes this morning and some green beans. I think I will make a little tomato juice with the ripest tomatoes on hand. I really don't need any more sauce. I have 3 small bell peppers that should be ready to pick soon. Although the overnight temps were in the mid 40's today and tomorrow daytime temps are supposed to be warmer so I'm hoping for more ripening to happen. A suggestion for charging your niece @karenerwin, perhaps barter for something she can offer. If there's nothing tangible, perhaps she could run a few errands for you or help with taking your mother to an appointment or two. Just a thought. I may use your blender technique @jerryse when I make my tomato juice. It sounds like it would take less time than the way I've been doing it. Have a great day everyone.

Thanks for the suggestion, however she has 5 kids. The oldest just turned 11. The youngest 3 are 3, 3.5 & 4. ( One of them is her sister's kid that she has been raising from infancy). My mother is her Grandmother so she does help when she can. She is also a physical therapist, so she keeps pretty busy.

LOL, I am contemplating going to see if I can buy another box of tomatoes so I can put up more tomato products!

BF liked the apple sauce I made last night we have 2 decent apple trees with he collect apples for me to cook down sicker than a dog here today hit in the night

Only took about 6 cups worth of tomatoes and two larger cukes from the garden today.

The mustard is looking good. I'll be planting more of that next year instead of peppers.

Plants all still look great and have plenty of green tomatoes on them. We're still in the high 80s during the day and low 70s and 60s at night, so I'll let them go for a bit. I went ahead and fertilized everything again to give it a boost. It currently feels like 95 with no wind out, so fertilizing the orchard will wait until I go out this evening and feed the mosquitoes.

Irrigation on the trees is on. I'll irrigate the garden in a little bit. I want to let all that juicy pink water get soaked up into those thirsty roots first.

Still have more pillowcases to finish. Alpacas need to have a pedicure (TOO HOT). Bees are still busy, so I'll leave the Russian sage up until it dies on it's own.

I have 3 bushels of apples to get going (one more to pick up this week). I'm going to do a lot of dried apples. I love them for snacking and for Schnitz pie (one of those cooling on the counter now.) The rest will meet their fate in applesauce as I still have plenty of apple butter. MAYBE will make a few more since the apple butter expires at Christmas.

OK..hanging head....6 more pillowcases and I'll take another break. I swear they're breeding when I turn my back.

I seem to be living with the dayquil but not that perky did clean my coops put a flannel pj top this morning guess I am cool as still have my sweat jacket over it
