What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning all. Well the pumpkin in my avatar is only 1/3 full now. There were a few brave trick or treaters that showed up in spite of the high winds and sporadic showers. The winds were wicked bad last night and still kicking up now. School delays and some closings due to wind damage today. The temperatures are getting ready to plummet overnight and more seasonal temps in the forecast. I will be picking the rest of my leeks today. Yesterday I made another chicken saddle for one of my hens. The original I think is a bit too small for her and doesn't cover her back. I made a new one that is larger and put an extra layer of fill to protect her back a little better from the roosters advances. I thought my hens were pretty much finished with laying this season, however I got a total of 5 eggs yesterday. So apparently two of the hens are still laying occasionally. My indoor "garden" is looking good. I do think I need to amp up the humidity a bit more. My original poinsettia is starting to produce a ton of new leaves. This plant was a tiny gift 9 years ago. It has spawned 6 baby plants and has been going through a sad looking phase for about 2 years. It even has some blooms popping up on it. My big spider plant is putting out a bloom as well. Gearing up for a snowy winter it's nice to have some green (other than pine) to look at. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning all. I'm with @Sueby, bring on the snow. Not to be insensitive, but here in New England anything less than 6 inches is just a dusting. We don't really get much snow until December or January, however, we have had some on Halloween. Glad to hear your Mom is improving @karenerwin. OK, and when has Walmart not sold something seasonably inappropriate @AllenK RGV? When you live in a climate that has normally high / hot temperatures, a cold snap could be temps in the 60's. If you're accustomed to 90F, 60F seems chilly. Therefore, you might want the fleece. But those of us in colder climates are hoping you send us some cheery photos of your garden over our snowy winter. Have a great day everyone.
Nope I refused to put on jeans, we just had temps in the 40! Ha on you:weeI'm not taking the appropriate stuff off the hanger and then listening to what I did wrong from the better half of my relationship!

Chili sounds really good, especially on a cool day like today! Tonight, however, we are having zucchini lasagna. I'm sweating the zuke slices right now, and will make the lasagna later. There's also a winter squash in the nuke softening up for the chickens (I already cooked another one that's cooling off on the counter). When both squashes are ready, I'll cut each into four pieces and offer them to the ladies. Boy, do they love squash, especially the seeds! :drool
Thankfully I do not need to drive far for the hot-n-Spicy stuff only one mile. I live in a podunk region of the world, but man the local cuisine makes me cry from the heat.

Good morning gardeners,

I had a chance to get outside to the garden yesterday during daylight hours. There are more carrots popping up and I think there's finally some broccoli too. We have tiny tomatoes on the plant, I'm hoping the overnight temps will stay above freezing long enough for them to grow up. The indoor plants are doing well, lots of growth on the 4 Christmas cacti. I cut the long trailers off the pothos and the dead stuff off the fern and put some food spikes in the pots before I watered. I need to get the greenhouse set up and get some cuttings off the lantana this weekend. I was going to do that today after work but I have a migraine. I might take the day off and just nap the day away with my pups. Have a great day all.

Morning folks! I was fortunate the temps didn't get below the mid 40's, so the pineapples could all stay put at least we can harvest something come spring this year. I do need to look at putting carrots in the ground as it is carrot and lettuce season now! Not to mention broccoli. Guess we will have a busy week, happy it is time to crack open those heirloom seed packs as last weeks high temps in the 90's seem to be over.

Still I would love it if Anyone who has some artichoke offshoots to mail could contact me. The chicken and native flora will not let me get seeds started(sea salt/ants/ect). It is such a shame I left my artichokes behind when we moved in here. I didn't realize it would be a 2 year task in failure to get those plants restarted.

I have a plant that is actively growing but I've never propagated them before. My last plants died before I got around to it. How is it done? I would be happy to send.

Let me educate myself on propagation and I'll look at my plant. Do they have to be of a certain age for that? This is only the second growing season I've had this plant.
Our last one was ready after it's first fruiting season, however, do not stress. Plenty of people grow these I just can't believe we can't get one restarted.

Afternoon. We lost power last night & it looks like it will be a few days before we get it back. Trees & power lines down everywhere, makes it a challenge to get into town!

DH didn't fire up the generator yet, but will soon so I entertained myself cleaning out the last of the garden. How sad. :( Turned the compost, gave the chickens a pile of leaves. I went to tractor supply & got a manure fork & the canning jars I will need for my Christmas Jam gifts.

I cut the last of the Dahlias as we're supposed to get a freeze this weekend.

Off to find something I can cook on the grill for lunch!
