Good morning gardeners. That storm finally blew out of here late yesterday. It was tough to hang with the chickens while they played in the backyard. The wind was still a bit blustery. Surprisingly my hen who needed the new chicken saddle was almost cooperative while I removed the old one and put on the new one. The new one covers more area and fits much better. I picked the rest of my leeks yesterday. Next Spring I'll be starting them all inside early. Looking at the long range forecast it appears we may be in for two nights of temperatures in the teens at the end of next week. Oh wow, it's a bit early for that. I wanted to wait until December before wrapping the coop, but I'm thinking I may need to do it sooner. At least the skies have cleared and we have a few sunny days to work on outside chores. That must be some mighty fine prime rib @Sueby to travel that far for a meal. LOL! Let us know how your green beans fared through the cold temps @karenerwin. Have a great day everyone.

Everything in the garden was toast! It had all frozen and thawed. Spent an hour an a half pulling it all out and tossing it in the chicken yards for them to glean through.

See bought the name brand pea coat but the amazon price was amazing
This is where military service is a big plus, I have been giveing away my cold weather stuff for years and still have not run out. To date this has not been a donation year for us, but our closet never seems to run out of the stuff. Usually, we wait until cold weather shelters are opening up then rush to put together those care packages.

After 14 years in Germany I might know a thing or two about cold. Just not chicken keeping. I still can not believe our toilet never froze in winter as those were in un-heated rooms.

Morning gardeners.

Got the run all buckled up & for whatever reason the girls slept outside in it last night. Not sure if the plastic made it lighter & they missed the door or what but we were at dinner in NH & didn't get home till late so I didn't check on them. Silly chickens, coldest night we've had so far too.

Bagging up leaves today to save for the winter, if they dry out enough.

Thinking I'll wait till next weekend to dig up the dahlias, they need a better freeze. They are talking a little snow Friday. It won't happen, but its the time of year where they have to hype it up.

Have a great day all!
