What did you do in the garden today?

I'm in awe of everyone's space to garden in, so I will live vicariously through you.
My small garden turned pretty minuscule when I extended the chicken run into its already smallish area. Though, I should be able to grow enough for us to have a salad garden, year round, if I manage it right. But that's about it. Waiting on my tomatoes... zzzzzzz at least I have them staked this time. I don't have enough space to commit long term.

Yesterday, after letting the girls debug 2 boxes, I sowed a few zucchini and more lettuce. I have never planted Zucchini this time of year and hope it works against the dreaded pickle worm. Planting off season was suggested and worth a try, I will also net :fl worth a try.

I did check out the new garden thread. Seems to have some new blood in there. Good for them. I'll stay here. I get alerted and find you all quirky, interesting and very talented, plus you tolerate me, my long winded posts and my many photos... I think.

@Wee Farmer Sarah, Christmas day we got some pretty severe weather. 20" of rain in 24 but it kept coming. I'm not sure what the total was for the entire storm but would guess it to be at well over 30+ in under 48. The wind was up to 50+ here and 70+ on Oahu and the day after xmas a helicopter went down with two families in it. 3 were kids and it made national news, so I thought a few may have heard about it. Absolutely tragic.

K. Got to get off my okole and feed and trim. Have an awesome day gardeners!!

We had about 1.5" of rain Sunday afternoon through the day on Monday. Forecast is calling for about the same for Friday and Saturday. Hopefully it isn't too heavy, ground is already fairly drenched. Temps have been good at least, in the upper 40's today and 50's over the weekend but can't take much advantage of it when it is raining.

Good afternoon all. So sorry @TropicalBabies regarding the bad weather. Apparently it didn't make the national news here. It looks like it did quite a bit of damage. We got hit with an ice storm here, but not so bad in my immediate area. I'm just happy we didn't lose power or the internet. If you have run out of horizontal gardening space, try going vertical. And I'm glad you are sticking around here because I enjoy your posts and photos and learning more about tropical gardening. I just can't get over how much you are getting accomplished on the new garden beds @Acre4Me. Despite being above freezing for 2 days, my yard is still covered in 4 -5 inches of ice. So nothing is happening in my yard for awhile. Apparently there's more snow on the way Saturday night into Sunday. Well, it is New England. Maybe I should invest in some snow shoes. LOL! Enjoy the rest of your day.

I finally got the rest of the deer meat ground, thanks to the awesome electric meat grinder my daughter gave me for Christmas!!
The weather here was nice again. I burned a little more brush but some of it didn't want to cooperate on account of being too wet still.
Went to the feed store and picked up some flower seeds and cilantro seeds, chicken food, shavings and some things for the bee keeping adventure I am getting ready to get into.
I did find out from a BYC member is St. Louis that there is actually a bee keeping store about a half hour from me!! I will be calling them in the morning to see about ordering some bees for the Spring. :fl Hopefully, they still have some available. :fl
I also contacted a former co-worker of my daughter's. She lives in my general area too and I know she has bee hives. She offered to come over and show me the ropes!!

I have a job interview on Friday. It's for a box making position at an aerosol factory not too far away. If I get the job it will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday 12 hour shifts.
I like that it is just 3 days out of 7 and is still full time, but I don't like the idea of 12 hour shifts. I'm not as young as I once was! :lau
But I need some kind of extra income to pay for health insurance and I don't want to work 5 or more days out of 7. So, hopefully this will all work out just great.
