What did you do in the garden today?

Morning Gardeners... Trench in a chicken run mine would dig it level... Try to move
mud from the pavers they put it back .. The pavers there are to help me walk ..
I gave up wasting shavings it can get so wet before they break down I cannot stay up

I have french drains under the run and around the coop.

Went to Menards for something totally unrelated to gardening,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and passed this department.

Seed packets are 59 cents, but store has a promotion at a discounted price of 39 cents. Other store where I would buy my seeds, the packets were $1.29 each. I know some seed suppliers sell pricey seeds, and give you very few seeds, like a count of 8, and no more. ( I am not talking about certain seeds that are legal in a number of states including now as of January 1, 2020, Illinois)

So I got a bag of seed starter, and a few seed packets.

I know that these are just Standard Grade, basic seeds, but they are good enough for my needs. I will start these seeds indoors in a few weeks. I don't have much room indoors where to keep them. (sunny window exposure area).
I will get more seeds later, and those I will plant directly into outdoor ground.
Only other eatable plant seeds will be sorrel, and dill. Rest will be flower seeds.

I'm going to have to stop at Menards. I didn't see these last time I was there. Hopefully the store nearest me has them for sale too. I'm in IL also, so I imagine they will. There's a few seeds on my list that I haven't purchased just yet.
Also, I have used these seeds in the past with no issues really. For being "standard grade" they grow well for us. Plant a few seeds in each starter cell and thin out as they begin to get their first real leaves.

@cavemanrich I had HORRIBLE luck with those menards seeds last year. less than 5% germination rate. I hope they're better this year.

I know Menards is kind of localized store to Wisconsin. They have opened stores in Illinois just about 15 years or so. I like the store. Their prices are lower than HD on most items. I think HD is the LARGEST CHAIN, with stores even at the NORTH POLE

I don't feed wild birds anymore. At our old house I thought it was nice to have a bird feeder in the tree in front of the house. Then corn started taking over my flower bed below the feeder. I didn't realize that bird seed was possibly fertile seed. I assumed it was aged or cracked or heated or something to prevent it from growing. I ended up telling DW that assumption made an ass(out of)u(and)me. Now I could hang feeders over our lower patio that is paved and surround a large maple tree, but I don't want to attract more birds than we already get since we TRY to grow a garden.

Anybody else have (or going to have when the weather breaks) a garden that 1000+ sqft? I'm looking at the garden plan I've been working on and realizing it's going to be A LOT of work. I'm hoping we get A LOT of produce from it though. I will definitely have to mulch this year because there's no way I can maintain weeding the entire garden every weekend without mulch and even weed cloth assisting me in keeping the weeds in check.

Last spring, I planted some of those that I purchased from other place @ $1.29, and some did well, and others just a struggle.
I will see if the starter soil makes a difference.
