Woke to auntie calling for help this morning. Her freezer was making a racket and she was panicked. Oh how I wanted a quiet morning w/ my DH and to enjoy my coffee, garden and chickens... but not to be had. AJ is becoming a part time job, the more you do, the more she needs done. Deep breath. So I unplugged her freezer, busted out and cleaned the coolers and packed, ran for ice, got the paperwork gathered and ready. The good news is it seems like just ice gathered in the vents. Whew!!! So another hour and I will give it a good clean and plug back in to see what we got.
We have high clouds and our trades are pretty blustery with gusts up to 33mph, though expected to lessen with an approaching cold front shifting from the South. Then back to dry and warm conditions.
Picked two tomatoes yesterday, some lettuce and arugula and avocado to share. Yes, we still have avos on our tree- awesme!
K. Gotta figure out every bodies dinner and get my okole back in gear. Wishing you all a wonderful, safe, warm and springy weekend!!! Aloha!

Livestock Auction today! We sold 11 chickens (including one rooster), and averaged $13 per bird (before commission was taken out). Now we have room for the 2.5 week old chicks that are growing well!

Amazing bright and sunny day. Started off pretty cold (around 25F), but got up to 41F and the wind died down, so I took a long walk at the local park. Seeds are started, so not much else to do with those right now.

Good morning gardeners. I have come down with a cold I believe. I haven't been sick in over a year so this is not fun. And no, not the coronavirus. Likely related to dust allergies and letting the humidity level in the house get too low. That said, the weather is fairly nice. Sunshine and heading into the mid 50's today. With these warmer temps I will try to get the fertilizer spikes for my fruit trees in the ground tomorrow. Although I've noticed the larger trees developing their leaf buds, my forsythia are in a shady area and a bit cooler so no sign of buds on them yet. I remember a few years ago when we had an early Spring and then got a hard freeze at the end of April. That wiped out the peach crop. The large forsythia I had on that property (previous house) was in mid- bloom and the freeze stopped that. I need to go through my pile of seeds and see what takes longer to grow so I can decide what to start next. I was able to get one of my fence panels re-attached somewhat to the other panels. It's not as secure as it should be, but it's not flapping in the wind anymore. I gave my sad little Meyer Lemon tree a sprinkle of 10-10-10 fertilizer yesterday. Hopefully it will get growing stronger soon. Not much else to do in the garden until I get the dirt in. Have a great day everyone and stay healthy.

Been sneezing and coughing for a week, just here and there, and had a fun fever the other day. (bee sting reaction) and the sneezing and coughing is phlem and allergies from stringing fence line in the howling dusty winds.

A bunch of stuff I need for make ahead freezer meals was on sale all at once this week, so I'll be doing that until lunch, while the wash is running. Then I'll eat and help clean the barn and coop before we get a week of RAIN! It's been SO long without any kind of moisture here. (happily not snow either) But now we DO need it to raise soil moisture levels.

I was invited to a friends spring fling at her shop on saturday. I'll be selling little girls spring dresses, and aprons and french baking caps/modesty caps. Thing is I haven't MADE them yet! ACK! Good thing it will be a rainy week. I'll be chained to the machine all week.

I'll need to make a wood display rack today too. I'll hang the little dresses, and the aprons I'll hang folded in half, and I'll wear mine.

I swear. Why do I say YES?!?!

Reason i ask is i have a

The soil test (done by Penn State labs) indicates a 7.8 pH and other metrics that say the soil is in need of amending. So, the pH will be addressed first. We may just sow some cover crop to use as green manure in that large bed in prep for late summer/fall planting. We also have 10 raised beds with soil from different sources and the metrics on those are better. The pH is higher than desired (at 7.3), but other metrics are ok- the raised beds need amending, but not so bad as the high pH bed.

Reason i ask is i have a 2 pronge soil tester an ive never had a actuall place test it so if i did they would actually show a break down of whats needed in the soil? As far as more acidic stuff or more neutralizing?

the Penn State Lab did break down the information into what was needed for amending. I added pics of my analysis sheets a couple of weeks ago, so you can look back to see if you can find the pics in this thread. Some labs give you the analysis, but no Further information. In that case you should be able to walk into your county extension office (or call) and get somedirection from them. This is what me neighbor had to do last year with the soil analysis results he got back from a different lab.

Good morning gardeners. Well, afternoon for most of you now with the time change. @Wee Farmer Sarah. @WthrLady hope you both feel better, colds and/or allergies are no fun.We're down to the mid 70s today and partly cloudy. The sky is so blue! We're expecting possible rain next week, sure hope we get some. I swept the patio, raked the yard, somewhat reassembled the compost pile, pulled a few weeds and clumps of grass, watered the transplants and lemon tree, and put in some more jalapeno seeds. The chickens were all upset because everyone wants the corner box again I found an egg in the entrance to the coop yard so someone couldn't wait, poor thing. We'll have to add another box today. I have chicks due to hatch Tuesday so I'm getting the mini coop and brooder ready too. Have a great day everyone.

We’re battling two illnesses among the kiddos and I managed to tweak my neck in sleep, but I’m going to juice up on OTC meds and take advantage of the SUN to finish my transplants. Yesterday we had crazy weather that I haven’t seen since I left Kansas (hail, sun, thunder, more hail? That weird color the sky gets before a nasty storm)

Anyway, I’m also going to work out where to move the ducklings once they outgrow the tub. They’re poopin too much!
