What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. Everybody seems quite busy now. Cardboard at the bottom of the raised bed will keep you totally weed free the first season. The next year you will get some weeds so I'm guessing this year I will be pulling weeds. I've not had much luck with landscape fabric. The weeds seem to bust through it quicker than the desired plants can grow. But perhaps the LF and mulch is more effective together. Your garden beds look amazing @BReeder! I can't wait to see them all grown in with green plants. I started with 5 raised beds, then added 3 more in the main vegetable garden area and then added two small round beds of herbs. The 4 x 16 foot raised bed I've been working on is the last addition. I've cut the boards and the lattice for the fence and remembered (finally) to charge the drill battery. So hopefully will have a picture of that tomorrow. I'm planning on an outing on Thursday. First stop, grocery store. Later, I really need to get some more compost. Since I haven't been out I don't know what is available at Walmart or the big box stores. We're still getting frost this week so I can't imagine there are a lot of plants for sale yet. I will be holding off for another week or two before planting my little seedlings outside. It's just been too cold this Spring. I'm a bit concerned since the temps in June are expected to be quite toasty. Speaking of toasty @AllenK RGV, have you tried shade cloth on your crops? The broccoli especially. It might keep it a little cooler. So here you go @BReeder! two pictures, sort of a before then after to give you an idea of the wonderful change you will be getting in your own garden beds. Have a great day everyone.

Wow! I'm jealous of that beautiful green.

Don’t be too jealous. Some of that green in front of the garden are weeds. LOL! But thank you. I managed to get 2 pieces of lattice up before the wind started kicking up and of course rain. I stopped that work to clean the coop and fill food dishes.

I think every gardener grows great weeds lol. My garden has plenty! April showers bring May flowers right?

Good morning gardeners. It did get warm yesterday, but the wind still doesn't want to quit. Good news, I have some green movement in one each poblano and jalapeno cell. I'm hoping at least two more start to emerge. I didn't get the lattice fence up on the new garden bed, but I did get the wood posts cut for it. I decided against cutting the lattice in the backyard out of concern the chickens might find the white plastic "sawdust" to be tasty. I'll do the cutting in the garage this morning. It looks like this coming Thursday may be a good planting outside day. I'll keep an eye on the long range forecast just to be sure. Splitting a peace lily: I did that last year. It's really pretty easy. I just pulled the roots apart by hand and divided them. I did have to support them a little until they got over their "separation" shock wobbling. They are both doing well. One of them has had a flower on it for over a month now. I had to separate my rooster from the girls yesterday. He's not mean, just a clumsy guy. I want the girls to have time to heal up from his advances so he is chilling in the bachelor pad for now. The wood on your lanai is beautiful @TropicalBabies. Is it teak? I'm going to take advantage of the mid-50's temps today and get that garden bed fenced before the rain storm comes through later this evening. Have a great day everyone.
Deck and steps are just the run of the mill treated fir. Amazing what a clear coat will do lol.
