What did you do in the garden today?

It is 9AM for me and I'm not sure yet but pretty sure Black Beauty(Sumatra) is queuing up for a trip to broody prison today. I had to pull her off the nest last night at chicken'o'clock to put her on the roost. Her vent area on the trip there had me questioning if she might lay or not as well but no definitive answer came as she was fighting up a storm about the indignity. I was just patting myself on the back thinking that today would be the first time in a long while I didn't need to take prisoners until I read your post @WthrLady , so, thanks for bursting my bubble.

I transplanted this bush in late Winter and it's blooming. The bees like this one, but I can't remember what it is

@TropicalBabies. My heart is heavy for you. I've been in the same situation. Before we moved here, we lived on a 3 acre rental. Our chickens were free-range and several died questionably. Then we caught the dog in the act and hubby worked hard on training him. We thought all was OK until about a year later. I came home from the grocery store and the kids were screaming about the dog tossing the chickens in the air. He killed 3 out of my 4 Araucanas. Some dogs just have no business being around chickens. Needless to say, we had to re-home him like Biscuit. Sending you hugs from Cali - its difficult situation to deal with :hugs

Baby ducks are awesome! I might decide to incubate duck eggs one of these days. Our ducks are grown and laying. I'm thinking about hatching and growing for meat.
Last year, I had some problems with the ferret’s raid into the duck shed, the surviving ducks were relocated to the stable where goats live, the ferret does not go there because he is afraid of goats, the ducks are safe there. Now I do not eat ducks and restore livestock.

These ducks are already almost adults, I hatched them in the winter. The surviving ducks are mostly quite old and rarely carry eggs, but I managed to incubate several ducklings and they grew. Four already live in a stable with the rest, and the three live in my house.

In the future I will start a dog (my old dog unfortunately died), I also want to put electricity into a duck shed (to turn on the lights at night, ferrets do not go into the light), and I also want to put a surveillance camera in it so that when I sit I’m playing computer at home, I could look into the duck shed once again.

But for meat I still use goats, I ate three goats. Actually, I wanted to get two goats and a goat (male), but I got 4 goats (female) and a goat (male), and then they bred. Now I have 17 goats.

Today i preraped some places for potato. It`s too early (here) to plant it, the earth are too cold yet, i will plant in 9 may.
I dig the earth, next time I will lay on top the old dirty bedding from the barn, make there holes, put the potato there, and lay on a potatoes some sand. It`s a little unusual tecnology, but i like it - i have a good harvest after that. we have rather heavy and clay soil, so it’s easier to plant potatoes in this way.

Thank you. I am pretty tore up with sadness, frustration, guilt and of course... my favorite, anger. You sharing your experience really helps my heart. It is good to be safe among chicken lovers. The rest of the world just not seem to understand lol.
