What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. I think Spring has officially arrived. Although it did hit 32F this morning. I uncovered the potatoes and leeks yesterday. The plastic tarp was filled up like a swimming pool from all the rain we got. I did manage to get some cleaning in the yard done yesterday as well. I'm planting the nasturtiums outside today. I may plant a row of turnips as well. I have another poblano seedling emerging. That makes me so happy. I noticed that my chives are coming up. They didn't do all that well last year so I'm hoping they will be more productive this year. I think I may set my rosemary plants outside today, although we are supposed to get more torrential rain again Thursday and Friday. I made a quick shopping trip to the discount store where I buy my garden products yesterday. I finally found basil and impatiens seeds. I will get them planted today indoors. My sunroom is starting to look naked with the seedlings moving on. My dahlia tubers seemed a little dry when I took them out of the box of sand so I put them in a plastic zip loc bag with dirt a few weeks ago. Then I added just a tiny bit of water and now most of them are plumping up. I think they will be ready to plant soon. Today is supposed to be chick pick-up day. I have the brooder set up for them. I still need to find a nice branch for them to roost on. Have a great day everyone and happy planting.

Good morning gardeners. We are under a heat warning today and tomorrow. I watered and noticed there's actually grass in the grass frame not just clover. There are also a few Gladiolus sprouts :love I think I'm going to toss some more grass seed in the dog yard Friday morning and cover with some good dirt before I water. There are a few bare patches where some beastly puppy was intent on digging herself a hole last year. The nasturtiums in the ground are dark green and lovely, the potted ones are drying out so I put them out for the chickens. I'm going to pick up a few stakes I can drive into the ground and put a barrier around the bushes out back. They need more room to grow and a wider area of mulch. I might replace one with something else, hopefully I can find a red fairy duster. There's also a bush that gets to be a good size and blooms white that I'd like. The goal is shade for the flock so I need bushes big enough they can't eat the whole thing. Have a great day everyone!

ETA I found some stakes in the yard and I have bird netting so I used that and attached with zip ties. The bottom us held down with bricks and broken pavers. Good enough to keep the chickens out.

I am afraid to use the thin gardening netting. Small birds died in it when I used it to cover vegetables, strawberries and berrie bushes many years ago,
Now I use old rabbit fences , pieces of hwc and strong cat netting that I can stretch over the vegetables/fruits. I never used gardening netting having bantam chickens.

What kind of netting/ cover do you all use?
I just don't bother covering plants with any netting honestly. We have 20 strawberry plants this year in planters. I may have to cover those when they bloom. I would use the cheap netting on them because they are in planters on the deck railing where chickens and ducks are not likely to reach.
I do cover my chicken run with a net, but that has 2"x2" openings. It's a heavier nylon net I found cheap on Amazon.

I am looking forward to lots of photos @BReeder! :D
Here are pics...

The pond. I still need to clean up around it and get the filler built.

An example of the muck I dig out. This was already washed by rain quite a bit too.

I was happy enough with the gross description of your muck out, and I didn't need pictures before breakfast. Shame on you:lau
You better start eating breakfast earlier because who know's what else is in store this week. I'm putting as much time into the yard as I can right now and coming across all sorts of good photo ops.

So my new start artichokes are looking sad and the answer was obvious they are root bound. Went out to the shed and I only have 3 15 gallon root pouches left. So instead of sweating in the heat filling those 3 I have I hopped online in the AC and ordered 3 (10)packs each of the 5, 10, and 15 gallon containers. I still have 5 year old ones that the Texas sun still has not destroyed so if you are looking for pots you can drag in due to temperatures this product is great. Every Pineapple gets one, and winter sensitive crops too. Mine come from greenhousemegastore.com although I do not know if that is the best price just where I have always gotten them. 5-50 gallon sizes all have the requisite handles. The grey ones break down too easy after 2-3 years.
