What did you do in the garden today?

Here is a couple of pictures of last year’s garden. We have a short season June until late September. September being mostly harvesting maturing crop.

I see you folks posting some baking. Well I semi retired this past December and my wife has been happy for me to try my hand at baking. Here are a few simple things I’ve been attempting.
Molasses bake beans, white bread, cinnamon rolls with a biscuit crust and 30% whole wheat bread.

Morning everyone. @Stepnout that's a nice big garden, I'm jealous!

The littles are doing much better with the mean girl. She still chases them but they get much closer to each other now. I threw out some scratch this am & they actually pecked around within a few feet of her. Yesterday she did pin one of them down though - hadn't seen her do that before.

Very chilly start to the day. Not looking like it's gonna warm up any time soon either. I love the cold, but my garden doesn't.

Good morning gardeners. Welcome to the thread @Stepnout. Yes @Sueby, it's back to being cold again. I prepped another garden bed yesterday so 3 are all ready to plant. I'm holding off until after this weekend's frost passes. Not all of my peas came up so I planted more seeds yesterday. I thinned the radishes again, hopefully the last time. I closed up the hoop garden late afternoon because the temps got into the low 40's overnight. It's only expected to get into the low 50's today. I've been getting a little stressed out over the grow out pen. I re-did my plans for it and will get something done on that today. I am really fighting the urge to run to the grocery store and stock up on more meat, especially after they announced on the evening news last night that some grocers are limiting the amount of meat you can buy at one time. I can imagine there is going to be a run on that for the next few days. Some of the flower seeds I planted a few days are coming up already. I can't wait to plant them outside too. Have a great day everyone.

@Wee Farmer Sarah would you share a pic of your hoop? I'm thinking next year I'll make one & get a few things started earlier. What is in yours? And I say don't fight that urge too much! There have been limits on food here for quite some time, everything is limited to 2 packages per person & they are getting stricter (if you can even find meat). Hence the reason for getting the 1/2 cow. But you do have the ability to raise your own meat so that's awesome.

I have the space to raise a couple of pigs, but the cost of fencing in that area is a bit too much for me. So for now I'll have to resort to stealthy meat hoarding. LOL! Here's a picture of the hoop bed. I used pieces of 2 x 4 fence wire to make the arches. I will be replacing them with pvc next season so the hoops will be more sturdy. But basically, I just covered one of my 4 foot x 8 foot raised beds. From what I understand, for really early planting you need to put hot compost under the covering to keep the plants warm. I've been relying on the sun mostly. But my radishes seem to like it and are doing well. Here it is. This was taken before I bought more clothespins to secure the plastic better.

I think you shouldn't fight the urge Sarah. Better to have a little extra and not need it than need it and not have it. If folks there are like folks here, they'll be going store to store with every family member going through a different line so they can load up. It's going to be just like TP I'm afraid.
