What did you do in the garden today?

I have to admit, I rarely harden my seedlings off. I'm afraid if I put out trays of seedlings my resident chipmunks will think it's a buffet for them. I here you @Sueby. The absolutely best place of a huge garden on my property is the leach field. I was so disappointed when I found out that's what was under ground. I had to get out the schematics of the septic system to determine if it was safe to plant one of my apple trees at the bottom of that slope. The new garden bed I added this year should work well for those plants that need a little shade during the day. We'll see.

Same thing here @Acre4Me - they are trying hard to keep up with the demand of new gardeners because of the food shortages. Same with the mail order seed companies, many are sold out of tons of stuff. I was glad I ordered early, but went back to grab a couple additions & they were all sold out of everything. It seems they're finally catching up now. & chicks! No one can keep baby chicks in stock! My neighbor couldn't even get any meat birds from the hatchery until fall. She doesn't want to cull in the middle of the winter so she went with dual purpose birds that won't be here till middle of summer!

Crazy times.
I can't even keep chicks after they hatch because I'm selling out. I've sold 200 birds in the last month and a half.

Been MIA on this thread. I have a question.

Where do you buy your seeds? And do they have oats, barley and wheat?

Looking to be proactive and learn to make my own chicken feed if the need arises but mostly to start gardening and being a little more self sufficient.

Thanks!
They do sell all that stuff and you can do a search online for the various types of seeds and find all sorts of places selling them.

I’ve never bought those types of seeds before but if you just type in oat seeds, barley seeds, etc. and should find lots.

Vegetable seeds I’ve mostly bought in stores but I did also order some from Seed Savers Exchange last year and there’s various other seed companies you can order from too. Baker seeds is good too and I know there’s others but I’m not sure of the names right now.

I also ordered some chicken pasture seed from this company so that could be an option too.

I ordered the Great Lakes/New England blend but they have a lot of different blends. They also have pasture blends for all sorts of different other animals besides poultry too that might have different species. You could look and see if any of the plants are something you’d want.

I think they sell individual seeds too and they appear to have all 3 species you mentioned plus many other types too. Although I really like the pasture blends too. You could always do both.

And of course they also sell seeds lots of places, even on Amazon, so you don’t have to buy from there. Just that I did but you should probably shop around some.

I admit, I laughed at tentacles too!

Heh, I'm not offended in the least! My old age super power is losing the word I want so I just go with it :).

Speaking of, where do you all store your extra seeds for the next year? Or do you not bother?

I'm keeping all my left over seeds, I spent a lot on them and will cling to the idea I won't do the same thing next year! :gig

Weather is gorgeous today, in the mid 50s now and might get to 60 today. They're saying 73 on Friday. Oh, and rabbit poop is magic and the worms love it!

I’m assuming you have enough acreage to field these grains. Check with your local Agway or feed store. Also try speaking to local farmers regarding where they buy their seed. I would be cautious about buying these types of grain seeds online.

I use hoss tools, migardener and Baker Creek for my seeds. I think Baker Creek and hoss have what you are looking for. Though Baker Creek keeps closing their website and then reopening it bc of a huge influx of orders.
