What did you do in the garden today?

I used cattle panels last year for some of my tomato plants. They worked great! I planted the tomatoes on the outside and let them grow up the side and then I had panels across the top as well and the tomato plants laid out on top of those as well.
Oh good! That’s what I’m hoping mine do! :wee

Went for a walk/ride on the beach and got drizzled on. Came home and lazed around as it came down steady for the rest of the day. Feeling kinda listless, one of my hens is acting like she is egg bound so I gave her a warm soak after a calcium dose, did a egg check but felt nothing. Think it makes me sad because I have lost so many chickens through the last few years, their odds seem 50/50 at best. Well, she is still eating and I am still keeping my eye on her. 😣🤞
I have a few more tomatoes ready to pick and a bunch of papaya's again. Been enjoying the arugula in my salads. Cherry toms have plenty blooms- stoked, seems a good set up for them so far. Amended my lettuce bed with compost between rain drops. Starfruit is starting to bloom and soursop is happy.
My momster Rose seems like she maaaay be snapping out of her... craze??? Jazz gave her a licking last eve at bedtime, little Jazz got the best f her and it seems to have possibly snapped her out of it. I've never seen such a mean hen fight, those two girls are scrappers and I hate to think what would have happened if I was not there to break it up. I'm never going to let Rose be a mom again if I can help it... she is such a weirdo.
Good night!

In spread a small tailor (4'x7') full of composted manure (horse, donkey, duck, chicken, goat, and possibly steer) I picked up from a guy in the next town over who has a small (huge to me) 6 acre farm. It covered a 27'x10' section of the garden quite well. I'm going to get that planted with tomatoes, eggplant, cucumbers, corn, and sweet potatoes this weekend hopefully. It is supposed to rain tonight/tomorrow, so Saturday or Sunday should be good for planting as the ground will still be moist but not saturated. I'm going to also put out the zucchini, yellow squash, and remaining potatoes. I may manage to replant the peppers we lost to a late frost along with other any other seeds I find time to plant into the raised beds.

I walked out, bundled up like I was in the middle of a snow storm :lau and looked at all of my plants. Hubby and I were going to go to Walmart to pick up some groceries, but when I checked online, they had already closed. Which was fine with me, I didn't want to go anyway!
Both of they 5 gallon buckets that I planted potatoes in have shoots coming out the top!! Plus I have some in the garden too! Those I will need to make sure I continue to add dirt on top of because I planted them pretty much at surface level.
I also noticed mole/vole tunnels going through my garden. :he Anyone have any good suggestions as to how to get rid of them?

Good morning all! I love seeing pics & the diversity of this group is awesome, plants I've never seen or heard of!

All is quiet here in the coop, the littles did good in the big girl coop with mean girl in her crate. They were confused as to where they were when they woke up, but alls good. Now to get them back in there tonight...

Starts are going in today NO MATTER WHAT!!

Our heat died last night. DH's been keeping an eye on it knowing somethings wrong. We are on a shared well & the water is undrinkable & apparently rots the copper lines & we have radiant heat in the floors. We assume we lost a line, it stinks bad if we have to abandon the radiant heat, means we'd have to redo the entire system & put in radiators. $$$$ & I have no hot water till it gets fixed. Joy!

Hope you all have a great day!

Wow! Lots to catch up on!! Thanks for all the pics!!

looks like temps are finally heading upwards. Still may see lows in the 40s in a few days. In addition, several days of rain coming. Thinking I’ll wait to plant my starts next week.

the 16x4 bed has been planted with bean seeds for dry beans. 5 kinds planted. 4 bush types and one pole type on the end, so the support structure can be added there. I planted Good Mother Stallard, which is the pole type and red/white mottled dry bean; Lina Cisco’s Bird Egg, a yellow/ brown mottled one; Black Turtle Soup; a Navy Soup Bean; and a fourth soul type with smaller brown seeds (Forget name).

beets and turnip seedlings look great, but 2 kinds of turnips didn’t seem to be sprouting, so I replanted 2 other kinds In their place.

potatoes look bad- all green tops got destroyed in the 25F low a few nights ago, so I’m not sure how they will produce overall. The feed store owners -at two feed stores where both places sell seed potatoes - indicated they would be fine, but may have reduced yields. My neighbor was going to replant his, but instead planted pepper plants over them. I don’t think he dug up his seed potatoes either and they actually look like they fared better than mine. So it’s a dilemma. I’m tempted to dig up the potatoes and start new bc I have more seed potatoes. Alternatively can see how these do And maybe get a second crop with my extra seed potatoes.

I bought 3 kinds of nasturtiums and two are flowering! The red one is so bright!
