What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. No plans for working in the garden today. Yesterday I was able to spray the apple trees. I'm not seeing any blossom buds yet but the crabapple tree across the street is in full bloom. Should I be concerned? Today I will be focusing on the little chicken coop. I will be working on getting as many boards cut as possible. I realized since I changed the "design" I need to paint it, so tomorrow I will be going shopping. Just trimming the edges and weeds in the back yard did good. I want to let the grass get a little thicker before I mow it and now it looks a bit tidier. I'm still waiting for my weed picker tool and the edging for my flower bed in the front yard. Everything is so slow. Good golly. The dandelions and other miscellaneous weeds are blocking out the grass. AAAGH! Sorry, I needed to vent. Have a great day everyone.

Sounds like a good plan. You could also get some cover crop seeds and plant those with the plan to till the green cover crop plants under in the late summer or fall so they rot in the ground - this is "green manure". Your garden soil will benefit. We are currently growing yellow blossom clover for this purpose in a large, lower quality soil, garden bed. We plan to let it grow for a few more weeks, then till it under so we can plant in that bed in June sometime. Of course, the weather here needs to actually warm up and quit raining.
Thank you for such a great idea. I'll research the best cover crops for my area - it seems like some type of legume would work best. Better than tarping bare ground or just letting weeds grow - we can definitely till a cover crop under in September and then mulch a thick layer of leaves, chips and compost.

you’re welcome! Just remember to till it in before it goes to seed!

But, the raised beds keep the plants high and dry, at least! Still annoying to see water surrounding the garden beds.
Thats very true for the raised beds, but not for the potatoes I planted on the other side if the garden just in rows. They didn't sprout yet, so hopefully they pull through.

Good morning gardeners. I checked the hole and the bottom was still pretty wet. I'll get some rebar and a hammer and drill down to break stuff up but that's going to have to wait until tomorrow. Got everything watered and I'm done outside for today. The pantry is a disaster and I promised beer battered onion rings for dinner tonight. Have a great day everyone!

What time is dinner? Yum!

Dark, cold and cloudy. About to toss on a sweatshirt and walk the orchard and take notes on the trees. Then figure out what is crawling on the cabbage.

I'll put fresh soil where I'm planting them, and may set them and the squash out today. The tomato plants are waiting to go in the ground until Sunday.

We're going to be stormy and very wet the next few days and I don't want to water stress the plants.
