OMG my tomatoes have blight already! Brand new beds, brand new soil, straw mulch under them & plants from a new place. ARG!

I am so sorry. Such a bummer to wait for so long and then... that.
I stick with what works for me in my area and have never had a regret when i follow my learned common sense. Maybe check with your university extension and hear what they have to say about it. Hopefully they can suggest some heartier varieties for your next years crop. HD never sells anything worth while... for the most part. I only grow UH varieties by seed because I got sick of nematodes, F&V wilt, fungus'sssssss. I actually GET lots of nice medium sized tomatoes or bumper of sweet 100's now that i don't grow any other verities. Keep us posted.

I have a few radishes sprouting but no sign of the carrots yet. Some more of the wildflower seeds are sprouting too.

My fabric pot of carrots are finally sprouting!!! But I only have 3 radish sprouts.

Last year I only got 2 zucchini the whole season.

I'm sorry, that isn't possible. Zucchini either dies as a baby plant or produces a terrifying amount of often giant fruit that you end up hiding on the neighbors front porch. That's just science.

@NightingaleJen a raccoon?! Wow! Those stupid things are just too smart & handy. Do you have a trap? & I bet I would have laughed seeing him with rat traps on his hands, lol.

If there's any chance of it spreading, I'd rip them out.

I probably should, but I'm hoping I caught it in time to keep it semi under control & it is in 2 beds that are not touching the others so I'm gonna go for it. I can't imagine summer without fresh tomatoes!

I replaced 16 last week for wilt. I swear. They weren't even 2 weeks in, but they came with it. I couldn't yank them out fast enough. The ones I bought from a mom and pop market in the middle of nowhere and the ones I started are going gangbusters.
The ones I bought from a professional nursery are terrible looking.

I'm putting up a windscreen around the garden to help with the roaring winds. My squash won't tolerate it at all. A normal day here can howl in the upper 20s and 30mph range. Then storms go even higher than that with 70 not uncommon. I loose a lot of tomato limbs at the end of the season due to the wind. Maybe this will help.

The wind also makes keeping up with watering difficult. The trans-evaporation triples with the wind.

You know, I blamed the farm where my friend & I always go since she has it too, hence the reason for ordering from online, well that & the hybrid isn't really something stores carry. But it dawned on me last night I reused my velcro ties from last year - that has to be where it came from. Never dawned on me to throw them out. What kind of a windscreen, like snow fence sort of thing? I sure do hope it helps, you get a lot of wind!

You have one of those too, huh? LOL! DH is a Millwright so he works on giant turbines & machinery at the power plants & stuff like that so I guess it's to be expected - but I still call him Pigpen.

I never peel my zucchini, no matter what I do with it! I like to slice it, fry it & then top with parm cheese. Yum.

@karenerwin is that clematis? It's very pretty! I have one that's planted in the shade so it never blooms, I need to move it.

@TropicalBabies the problem is I don't really like tomatoes, I only like the Brandywines, LOL. & I LOVE them! So I figured I'd try the hybrid that's supposed to be less prone...I think next year I will just skip the tomatoes altogether. Or maybe just the pastes for sauce/salsa.

Supposed to get some rain today, here's hoping - everything really needed to be watered yesterday but I figured I try & pass it off on mother nature. Here's hoping!

I caved & ordered some more morning glory online last night after talking about it here, I'll miss it too much & I think I can still get it to grow. It pops up pretty late anyway. I ordered a variety, they'll probably all be pink, I hate pink but that's my luck!

@littledog - I grow morning glory on my dog pen fence & was bummed when NONE came back this year! I didn't collect & dry any pods last year because it always just seeds itself - well I guess not always!

Those are not what we have - yours look beautiful! Ours are horrible. I've heard them called Morning Glories because they climb (like a foot every day, almost) but they have white flowers that grow into these huge, weird alien-looking spiky pods. They take over whole areas very quickly and choke out everything they grow near. I'll take a picture when it's light and post it when I can. Maybe one of you expert plant people can tell me what it really is.

I've heard of that. When this discussion came up a couple years ago because people were saying morning glory would kill a chicken I couldn't figure out which one they were talking about. I still don't know, lol. I'd love to see pics of yours, thanks!

Here's the "Super Sauce" and the "Amish Paste" tomatoes (started from seed end of March)in the garden in my reinforcement mesh cages . Along with potatoes(Kennebecs) in the containers , wax beans , cucumbers , zucchini , yellow squash , and sugar baby watermelons .

Good morning gardeners. I put Angus, AKA Rude Rooster, in jail this morning; he's got a 7 to 10 day sentence. I watered a few things but need to clean up the dog yard and water the grass. Lucy is broody so I picked 3 eggs from the bunch and marked them so I know which are hers to hatch, we'll see how long it lasts with the heat. Have a great day everyone!

I guaranteed rain, I caved & watered the garden. Found that I have garlic scapes & I can't wait to cook with them! I also found that I'm an idiot & half the vine squash are actually bush squash. No need for the trellises I built. Garden is really too small for bush squash, I only bought them to squeeze a couple in here & there.
