Might be safer to keep seperate doors one for you one for them SMHO I think predators
silkie here have a solid door and screen door mine only go out in thier tractor ..
We have outside cats that will kill them, they never go after my big girls but silkie

The run is predator proof. That's what took so long. There is HC under the dirt and mini coop and up the walls. Then there is a corrugated metal roof.

Nope! I like dutch doors, wish I had one on my run. I get accosted every time I have to go in there.

I'm making beef broth - roasting the bones in the oven now & it smells so good in here.

Hmmmm making hotdogs tonight wrap them in what I call pizza dough rolled out super thin ...

Beautiful clematis, @karenerwin! Thinking I'd like to put in a few around here now that I have a good idea of how the sun plays throughout the day and seasons. We had three at our last home. The one we loved best, which clambered up and over the chimney, I cannot remember the name of to save my life! ;D

@Sueby I need to ask Hubby if he still has the trailcam pictures of the rascal with the traps on his hands. Heh. They're cute until they destroy something...We do have a trap...and the raccoon (or one of them) is now gone. We'll probably set it for a few more nights. I'm just itching to get out there and get more seeds in the ground, late as it is!

Nice coop, @Wee Farmer Sarah. We have a regular door on our (close to finished) coop, but plan on Dutch doors for the run. Actually...a Dutch door inside the coop, between bird & people areas, might be a good idea...hm...

I was hoping to get out and shoot some of my garden last night, but the tornado warning put the kibosh on that. No more damage than lots of downed branches and one maple up near the road that lost its top, thank God, and all of our friends came through unscathed as well.

Until we're sure there was only one raccoon and we put the fear of God into the chipmunks and squirrels, it seems prudent to wait to plant more seeds and seedlings in the garden. It's driving me nuts, but I've already lost lots and lots of work thanks to the little monsters this year. They're 'just seeds', but...well, no doubt you all know how frustrating that can be!

We did find some fabulously priced "sad plants" at our favourite nursery (not the one that wiped out last year's tomato crop, ha): a big bellflower for $5, and six echinacea for $1 apiece! I've grown those from seed in the past too but for those prices...plus I had a gift certificate finally burning a hole in my pocket. Was hoping for a good climbing rose like "Lady Ashe" or "Galway Bay", but they only had one variety with a colour we didn't like and no scent to speak of. It's sort of a rough time of year to plant a rose, anyhow, though I'm always happy to give them the pampering they need.

Some of you are planting carrots during what seems like a late time of year to me—do they still do well even with the heat? I kind of figured it was too late!
