What did you do in the garden today?

Vegetarians that are lacto-ovo will eat dairy and eggs. Vegans absolutely do not eat anything that is an animal product including honey. A true vegan would not be doing any purposeful harm to animals. So if you eat cheese, eggs and drink milk you are not a vegan. I tried vegan cheese a few years ago and it tasted like something you made up in chemistry class.
So I guess I am a fake vegan because I have been eating vegan for most of my life, but I supply my families meat... whatever 🙄 I guess I’ll just say I’m plant based since that’s easier for people.

I do not drink milk, eat cheese, or consume anything that has to do with animals. I have allergies to a lot of things.

Vegan cheese doesn’t taste horrible but not everyone likes the same stuff. I choose not to eat those cheeses because they’re made up with stuff I can’t even pronounce.

You can call yourself whatever you want Krista. I was not criticizing just clarifying the difference. I too have allergies to certain foods so I get it. I’m lactose intolerant but am ok with cheese and yogurt. If I drink a glass of milk, even a half glass I’m not someone you want to be around. I usually eat more plant based meals myself however when I’m doing heavy work I am better able to handle the strain when I eat more meat. Also, older people like me need to make sure they are getting enough complete proteins every day.

I have a great refried bean recipe that I got from Food Wishes. Uses lard though. I make bean burritos with cheese out of it.
Do you mean real lard? The lard I get here is not true lard and is loaded with trans fat. I’ve thought about getting beef fat and rendering it myself. It makes the best pie crusts.

Those are bindweed. They come in two different types in Portland, both seed freely and both have terrible roots that break off in small bits and each bit will grow a new plant. It's in the same family as morning glory but is the scary evil cousin.

I have a dutch door in the interior door on the coop and storage area. I love it, I might get the run door changed to one too. And I am envious, I love the smells of stock being cooked. Do you roast vegetables for it too?

Morning gardeners, rained maybe half an inch last night so I'll be watering today. The okra in the greenhouse is doing fine, not sure how I'll make sure the bees can get to it for pollination though. I leave the door open all day so hopefully it'll be enough. Mixing flowers in the raised beds is a success, I saw a bumble bee in the salvia right next to the tomatoes. View attachment 2189118

And I'm glad now I bit the bullet and removed my sick tomatoes, those that are left all look vigorous and happy.View attachment 2189121

The borage that's in bloom is really bringing in the bees.

AND, Cupcake had her babies!View attachment 2189133

Not sure you can tell but there are 5 of them. We were hoping for more but they seem big and lively! Fern, our other female should be having her first little in the next week or so so we'll be buried in bunnies!

Love the bunny baby kits

hello everyone. i am new to this thread. i had a pretty productive garden before my son was born 6 years ago. this year i finally got around to renovating it. sadly the only thing that survived were a couple of asparagus plants (my husband enjoyed the spears i got from it this year), one sad black raspberry cane and a peach tree.

so this year we cleared out the jungle that had taken its place. i planted blueberry bushes, black raspberries, strawberries, garlic and onions this spring. we also ventured into chicken keeping. i am now the proud owner of 6 pullets (we got them at a few days old in April). about a month ago i added tomatoes, sweet peppers, carrots, beans, pumpkin, watermelon, basil, thyme, mint, oregano, and lavendar. i just started harvesting a few strawberries a day. i am super excited to get back into this.

pictures are shortly after clearing the jungle and today. it is still a work in progress.
