What did you do in the garden today?

@TropicalBabies, those are great pictures, thanks for sharing them. @WthrLady, don't turn your back on that bird, I can hear it's whispers... Just kidding, it's awesome! Did some rework on DP's rabbit hutch stand. Should be easier to maintain now but the thing weighs a ton and I'm so sore and I need a shower and clean clothes. I added some scrap wood to the latest pallet/deck so I put the last of the seedlings out to harden off. DP made a couple more sawhorses so we can get the workbench set up in the garage/barn. Still need to bury the cord for the parking area:

but we're really happy with it. Oh and here's a picture of the new rose planted on the fence. It's called Dawson's Enigma, it has lovely scented old fashioned flowers and grows into a thorny mass the will put Maleficent's castle to shame.

I would love some!! Were you serious? Do you have a way to get them to me??
Yeah, I'm serious. I suppose I can put some in a box or a bag and mail it. They grow like wildfire, from any old chunk of root, in my yard. Apparently the conditions are a little less favorable where you are, but we can give it a try.

Those are bindweed. They come in two different types in Portland, both seed freely and both have terrible roots that break off in small bits and each bit will grow a new plant. It's in the same family as morning glory but is the scary evil cousin.

YES! Thank you! I googled "bindweed" and that's exactly what it is. Horrible stuff.

It rained all weekend, but I did manage to get some small chores done that had been bugging me, like turning the compost pile and getting rid of the stinging nettle that was growing behind it, filling up all the tires on the trailer and all the wheelbarrows, and filling all my buckets with free fertilizer from our local treatment plant.

Walked around the field checking on the baby trees, and they're doing well. The weeping willow is amazing, we only planted it a month ago and it's already getting a bunch of new branches.

Our cherry trees are starting to produce, so I picked up all the ones that were on the ground and fed them to the chickens. It was hilarious to see the way they went crazy over those cherries. They were leaping up in the air trying to grab at them!

Ok wife and I discussed the Red Kraut thing further and we are settling on fermentation gear. Something like this or similar. https://www.rootsandharvest.com/product/855/crocks-weights-lids nothing terrible fancy and certainly nothing in the stratospheric price range. No need for that for a multi 1000 year old technology.
That looks wonderful. A few years ago when first wanted to try sauerkraut, I bought a kit to ferment in mason jars. It came with 3 lids with silicone gaskets, 3 airlocks, and 3 glass weights. They work great, the sauerkraut turns out really good. I think now that I know what I'm doing more or less, I might invest in a kit like what you posted, so I can do bigger batches.

@littledog I LOVE weeping willows! Post a pic!

Holy bananas @TropicalBabies! I can't even imagine! & both of those birds of paradise are gorgeous.

@WthrLady I sooo would have bought her too, she's beautiful!

See I thought endive was just that weird pale thing in those videos. I will add that to my lettuce seed. Can it be grown as a fall crop? Getting a little late here for lettuce seed.
That is darling, I've been thinking of adding bug houses to our raised beds but I might make extras and put them on the fence tops as well.
Yup, it is.
We love the bumble bees and they love the borage and salvia I planted in the raised beds. I was going to make bumble bee nests in the ground along the back property line but the plans came from a guy in England and I don't think they get yellow jackets there and we do big time here so maybe not.

Watering is done for the day except for the railing herb planters. I want to get the scrap boards added to the pallet/deck so I can start cramming more plants on it. I HAVE to remember to start using the alfalfa pellets I got last fall to use as gentle fertilizer for my winter crops. We can feed some of them to the bunnies but I have rather a lot. Anyone else ever use alfalfa either pellets or hay as fertilizer?

And then again we might go fishing again :)
I do everything I can to attract the bees around here. I felt so guilty 2 summers ago we knocked down an old shed to put up our big garage & there was a bumble bee nest in the ground by the foundation that we tore out - by the time we saw it, it was too late. I may never get over that, lol.

Back to work today, that commute from my bed to my couch is killer. :gig I sure do love working from home. I moved a few cuke plants around yesterday, planted them on the back side of the wasted trellises that I put up for the mistake bush squash. Tied up all the tomatoes too. & finally finished vacuum packing the rest of the cow. So glad that's all done.

Have a fantastic day all!

I got your pm, thanks, @karenerwin . Is there anything else you want, while we're at it? I have some flowers, some trees. Seeds. most of my yard is medicinal herbs. Coltsfoot, comfrey, primrose, lemon balm, st johnswort, violets, Dandelions, thornless blackberries (triple crown), lightly thorny everbearing raspberries. Daylilies. Japanese plums. Ornamental grass, goldenrod. Zoysia grass! Periwinkle. Spearmint. The list goes on forever. Japanese maple babies.

Good morning gardeners. Still enjoying cooler temps for now. I got the weed whacking finished in the backyard, the main vegetable garden and the area behind that. I can finally see my daylilies back there. I also planted some scallion seeds. Then I watered the new flower garden in the front yard as well as the planters of okra and bell peppers. The dry weather is really taking a toll on my grass in the front yard so I watered a couple of the brown spots a bit. I still need to do the trimming in the front yard, but that will have to wait at least until tomorrow. Today is laundry and house cleaning day. Love the chicken planter @WthrLady. I would have had a hard time passing that up as well. Your pictures are stunning as usual @TropicalBabies. Is that a pink hibiscus? It's lovely. Thank you. And @NewBoots, the chicken fountain is adorable. The little bit of dill I planted @Sueby is coming up nicely. BTW: my tiny bay laurel is actually growing. It really likes hanging outside with the real herbs. I hope it will be ready for a larger pot by summer's end. I too lost my taste for domestic American beer after spending a few years in Germany @AllenK RGV. My pink peonies are in full bloom so I thought I would share this shot. Also, here's a view of the vegetable gardens and the daylilies (not blooming quite yet). And yes, the potting shed is in desperate need of a coat of paint. It's on the list. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning gardeners. @WthrLady love that planter! I couldn't have resisted either. @NewBoots looking good there! I watered first thing this morning. All the transplants are looking good, even the little ruellia starts I put in pots. I like the white ones more than the purple, there's just something about crisp, clean white in the desert that's appealing. Now I'm having a bag of Fritos with my coffee on the patio. Has anyone tried the stuff you can spray on your lawn to get rid of urine burns? I'm a little leery of putting anything on the grass that might harm the dogs or chickens.
