What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. Still enjoying cooler temps for now. I got the weed whacking finished in the backyard, the main vegetable garden and the area behind that. I can finally see my daylilies back there. I also planted some scallion seeds. Then I watered the new flower garden in the front yard as well as the planters of okra and bell peppers. The dry weather is really taking a toll on my grass in the front yard so I watered a couple of the brown spots a bit. I still need to do the trimming in the front yard, but that will have to wait at least until tomorrow. Today is laundry and house cleaning day. Love the chicken planter @WthrLady. I would have had a hard time passing that up as well. Your pictures are stunning as usual @TropicalBabies. Is that a pink hibiscus? It's lovely. Thank you. And @NewBoots, the chicken fountain is adorable. The little bit of dill I planted @Sueby is coming up nicely. BTW: my tiny bay laurel is actually growing. It really likes hanging outside with the real herbs. I hope it will be ready for a larger pot by summer's end. I too lost my taste for domestic American beer after spending a few years in Germany @AllenK RGV. My pink peonies are in full bloom so I thought I would share this shot. Also, here's a view of the vegetable gardens and the daylilies (not blooming quite yet). And yes, the potting shed is in desperate need of a coat of paint. It's on the list. @Wee Farmer Sarah the peony is beautiful! Did your dahlias come up yet?

Thank you for asking, but no, but I bought a dahlia so I could tell if they do. I planted a lot of seed in that bed as well as the dahlias. I just noticed yesterday that there are a few things sprouting including the sweet peas. I'm hoping the dahlias are just slow like everything else this year.

Would you believe that's my cabbage. I'm hoping it starts forming heads soon before the weather gets too hot.

I have never grown cabbage, interesting. I hope the weather cooperates! This has been a strange year in so many ways.

I've never grown cabbage either. In my head I feel like it's one of those trouble plants, like cauliflower or broccoli that have big nasty worms so I won't even try. LOL!

That's not helpful. I may try to plant some in the new garden bed that gets more shade and see how that goes. I'm a southern girl by birth, you'd think I could grow a flippin' cabbage. Ugh!

THey DO get worms terribly.
Unless you spray, pick, dust, or cover with netting, those pesky cabbage moths get in everywhere.

Mine are under cover since transplanting to the outdoors. I even managed to attract them when they were in the garage potting shed, where I frequently left the large doors open on sunny days.

This morning I planted my heritage seed Lady Finger peas. This seed has been passed down at least three generations in my husband's family. Maybe longer. I am proud to be part of this legacy. They are so good!!! I have seen what they call lady finger peas at produce markets, but they are not the same. Mine are smaller. It is a white pea. Cooks a clear broth. Yummy!!! Cut up onion and tomato with them, served with corn bread, can't be beat.
