What did you do in the garden today?

Good afternoon gardeners, I accosted our mail man and made him take some lettuce, snap peas, and kale. I have no mercy. No rain so I watered the raised beds and deck. Did the weed eating including a section of the bluff, it's going to take a while to get the whole thing done. Ran out of line so I added more. Wound the wrong way of course. Got it done anyway.

One of our cockerels that hatched on April 22 or 23, crowed 3 times this morning at 6:45 am this morning, 3 more times at about 7:15 am, and 3 more times at about 8 am. It was that croaky choked new rooster crow so it's unlikely the neighbors heard it. But now I have to catch the boy in the act. :he

I love than new rooster crow smell! They just make me laugh every time. :gig

Hello everyone! I went to a friend's house today and we started dismantling a greenhouse that is attached to her house and came with the house. We worked from 9:30 AM until almost 3PM and got half of it down!! I brought home all of the glass panes that weren't cracked or broken. I plan to make a greenhouse for myself out of them! There is also a potting table that I am going to bring home to use in it. But I couldn't get it and the glass in the van at the same time. This table does not have a sink or water hook up. The other "half" of the greenhouse has a longer potting table and that one does have a sink and water hook up. I'm not sure if I could get that one home or not. Not sure if the one I claimed today will fit in the van or not. :lau
I'll post pictures in a bit. They are on my phone.
While I was at her house we were discussing bees and she asked me what carpenter bees pollinate. I didn't know so I looked it up. Are you ready for the answer???

Tomatoes and egg plant! among other things. It was really humorous because I was just telling her how poorly my tomatoes and egg plant did last year and about how many carpenter bees my husband killed last year because they were tearing up the rafters on our porch! :eek:Hmm, I think there may be a correlation there.

Okay, all you San Marzano tomato growers, I have some seeds that I planted not too long ago and saw today that they had sprouted and are the San Marzanoes! Which I would have known if I had read the popsicle stick earlier. My question is do you think it is still early enough in the season that I will actually get some tomatoes? I was really surprised that they even sprouted, I think the seeds are from either 2017 or 2015.

@katiefloy are those purple looking "greenbeans" for eating the whole bean? Or are you supposed to collect the beans inside for dried beans? I am asking because I got a little packet of blue pole bean seeds last year at the FarmAid concert but I don't know which type of bean they are supposed to be. :lau I'm wondering if they might be like yours (whatever that is). :idunno
After I got home from working on the greenhouse and got cleaned up, my bee mentor came over and we looked in the new hive that I made from a split on Tuesday, June 16th. I am thrilled to say that they are making Queen cells like crazy!!
We are supposed to get to 91 tomorrow and 89 for Saturday and Sunday but then it drops down to 82 and rainy the next 2 days and then doesn't get above 87 for the next 4 days. I also watered the raised bed for a while with the soaker hose. Oh and 3 of the sunflowers are opening!
I hope you all have a great evening!!

Welcome to the thread @TopazMaster91. I believe Romas would be my favorite tomato since I make a lot of sauce.
Yes, Roma is my go-to tomato for everything. I've never had bad luck with those, like I have with some of the other varieties I've experimented with. They're great for sauce, plus I make big salads to scoop from during the week and put in my lunchbox for work, and the Romas are meaty enough to hold up well in a salad for several days.

Good morning gardeners. It got a little hot here yesterday. My outdoor house thermometer got up to 90F. It really didn't cool off as much as I had hoped for overnight. It's already in the low 70's at 8 am. I gave the vegetable gardens a good drink and some fertilizer. Of course the weather forecast has changed again and this 90F heat is supposed to go on for the next 8 days with few chances of rain. I did manage to get everything but the mint planted so perhaps I'll find a spot for that today. I started hauling dirt to the chicken run yesterday. Two large buckets were quickly integrated with the old "compost." I hope to get a couple of buckets moved everyday until that pile is out of my driveway. I did get the two smaller window AC units in the windows yesterday. Today I need to put the big one in the dining room window. That involves moving furniture so it will fit in the window. I try not to use them too much, but sometimes it is really needed. It's nice to finally get caught up on the work around here so I can sit back and enjoy watching the garden grow for now. Have a great day everyone.
