What did you do in the garden today?

Hey glad there’s other people with a lot of time on their hands, lol. Today I found a pair of conjoined twin zucchini, a lucky toad who’s might make my zucchini plant home, and I beat the horse to the first of the ripe Mesquite beans.View attachment 2212987View attachment 2212988View attachment 2212989

Very interesting! What are you going to do with the mesquite beans? I read you can make flour and they are super good for you protein/carb ratio?? All kine good stuffs but never bothered with them myself cept tasting because the horses are crazy for them. I don't like them to have too many if can we help it because of the chance of colicing. They are EVERYWHERE on our westside.

Love the Zucchini and LUCKY toad ;)
Welcome and where are you at?

Hi all!! This is the first year I have actually planned and started a garden in my very own house. years ago when I was living at home we had lots of veggies and fruit growing but my grandfather was the main green thumb holder and I just helped. Super happy to be growing food for my family and I'm very very excited to be able to take some over to my grandfather since he is no longer able to keep a garden.
I'm in the southern hemisphere so I started my garden in Autumn/fall as we have very mild winters but hot summers...
Anyway today I finish preparing some more beds (I'm using raised garden beds for a lot of my plants) so tomorrow I can plant what I have raised from seed in my green house. I also thinned some more carrots which my children instantly took off me and ate, again I missed out.

That’s the plan, I bake a lot so I’ll be substituting some of the regular flour with it. Might try to make some “coffee” with it or apparently you can make ice cream and beer also so that’ll be an interesting project. Especially since I was already thinking about making wild dewberry mead, since I have about six gallons from May and I’m going to need the space for my fall produce. And I’m in Central Texas.

You can add your general location to your profile! It helps bc then others know where you are gardening, or what predators you might be up against, etc!

Welcome to tge gardening thread. While I'm not in the southern hemisphere I have similar growing conditions. Right now I'm just maintaining my shrubs and flowers but planning for fall!

Good morning gardeners. Nothing doing in my garden today. I just let the flock out, Angus is in jail, and the girls are so relaxed :love Cuckoo, my Dorking/Red Ranger mix, is a wee upset about Angus so she's not speaking to me. She runs from him every morning but she snuggles up to him at night. Lucy is still broody but I finally just pulled her out of the nest and put her in the empty one, talk about MAD. She gets off the nest and hangs out around the coop and then she's back at it once there's a few eggs to sit on. Happy Friday everyone!

Aargh! Racoon saga continues. Nothing on cams for 2 nights, then last night we get a large raccoon - or maybe more than one. A cat and then an unknown predator - another cat? a opossum? @WthrLady or anyone else - any thoughts? It's irritating bc my chickens aren't laying very well right now, probably due to predator stress.

What is this one? not sure what a opossum would look like and if they run like this.

Looks like a cat? I don't recognize this cat, it it is... Maybe its too big for a cat? Not many dogs around here. Too light for a coyote.

Definitely a cat, possums aren’t that quick, and the hips are too high and tail too fluffy. And the tail is too bendy looking to be a fox.

Good morning gardeners. I see there are more gardeners popping in. Welcome to the thread. It's only been a little over a month since our last frost but the garden seems to be catching up. Yesterday I watered the flowers, okra, bell peppers, fig tree and peach tree in the front yard. I did give a little drink to the shrubs. I also finally deadheaded the roses for the second time. At least the ones I could reach. I don't understand why the previous owner would plant a climbing rose on the corner of the house with nothing to climb on. I cut the branches back as best as I can to try to shorten the bush. The buds on the potatoes are opening very slowly, but that's okay. My daylilies are starting to bloom. Yay! I put some cut up onions around the carrots, lettuce and cabbage in hopes of repelling the hungry bunny. I haven't looked at them this morning, but I'll let you know. I did go to the grocery store yesterday. Good golly the prices are really surging. The only meat I bought was a small package of breakfast sausage. I didn't buy any fresh vegetables, just basic things like paper products, flour, sugar and coffee. But good grief it was over $100 for the little bit I did get. I'm really worried for when I deplete the meat in my big freezer. On that note: @TropicalBabies, I would really consider talking to your neighbor that some people would consider what she is doing as stealing when she picks your tomatoes. You could also try one of those motion sensor scary things to give her a head's up when she thinks you aren't looking. I had some people in my neighborhood that I was pretty sure they were helping themselves to my garden. They finally moved thank goodness. I planted a bird's nest gourd in a container that seems to be doing well. Yesterday I noticed it is developing "tendrils." Has anyone else grown these and if so, is this normal? I took pictures for you @NewBoots, however, I didn't get the message until after I decimated my roses. So when you look at the picture you are seeing around one half of what was there. Looking at the pictures @Acre4Me, the first is mostly a cat, definitely not an opossum. The second could be a coyote or another cat. Have you noticed feral cats in your area? The third one is definitely a raccoon. As for the cats, I remember years ago I saw a weird looking cat walking along a dark highway. I looked it up a few days later and found there was a species of wild cat living in Georgia that looked something like a jungle cat. I can't remember the name of it. Will try to look it up again. That was over 20 years ago so perhaps they are migrating westward. I've heard alligators are spreading up the eastern seaboard as far as North Carolina. Good thing they don't do well in snow country. Have a great day everyone.
