What did you do in the garden today?

Great Pics @Wee Farmer Sarah!

It's only been a little over a month since our last frost but the garden seems to be catching up.

Nice reminder that it really has only been 1 month of warmth, so the gardens really are growing quite a bit!

The buds on the potatoes are opening very slowly, but that's okay.

All 3 types (red, yellow, white) are basically done flowering. We had a few flowers left on the white ones yesterday. But, otherwise, they are looking less perky as the potato plant will now start to die back. I watered well during flowering, but now I'm done watering them. We get rain tomorrow - Sunday, so Mother Nature can water them any additional.

I read you can still hill them when they are starting to bloom. I may throw some more dirt on them. The plants have grown over 2 feet above the hill already. We're supposed to get rain tomorrow but I'm still planning on watering today.

Morning all.

@TropicalBabies you are much nicer than I would be to that neighbor. I'da told her she better watch out she doesn't get mistaken for a bear next time as they've been around & killing chickens.

Hey glad there’s other people with a lot of time on their hands, lol. Today I found a pair of conjoined twin zucchini, a lucky toad who’s might make my zucchini plant home, and I beat the horse to the first of the ripe Mesquite beans.View attachment 2212987View attachment 2212988View attachment 2212989
That's too funny! I saw a mutant double flower on my squash this am, I'd love a twin one. Speaking of, I hand pollinated like 3 more squash this am, can't wait to eat them.

@Acre4Me ugh, that's so stressful to have so many critters stalking your chickens!

@Wee Farmer Sarah that is definitely a good reminder that the last frost was only a month ago - thanks for that.

Going to move some more wood chips into the run today & try to still be able to walk after. I put up a Japanese beetle trap this am, they have arrived, rotten little bugs.

I have tomatoes on my blighted Brandy Boys! Yay!

I also have some San Marzanos popping now too.

Have a wonderful day all.

Aargh! Racoon saga continues. Nothing on cams for 2 nights, then last night we get a large raccoon - or maybe more than one. A cat and then an unknown predator - another cat? a opossum? @WthrLady or anyone else - any thoughts? It's irritating bc my chickens aren't laying very well right now, probably due to predator stress.

What is this one? not sure what a opossum would look like and if they run like this.

Looks like a cat? I don't recognize this cat, it it is... Maybe its too big for a cat? Not many dogs around here. Too light for a coyote.

Murderous racoon.

Two cats and a raccoon.

Sorry for the second post all. We went to HD for lumber, hubs is building a hay box for Walts pen today. I went to the garden center for a few bags of soil for the garden and bought 2 more red Mexican bird of paradise. I'm going to plant one in the corner opposite the one I already have out front. Then I'm going to do a border of lantana between them effectively closing off my yard to foot traffic except for a walk from where guests can park to the front door.

The second plant is going to replace the one I think I killed by transplanting out back. Oopsie. K, have a good day.

Aloha gardeners,
Thanks to those who chimed in on my tomato thief. Yes, worth a mention but way more fun to squirt lol. I was thinking I was a bit b*tchy because she is older but she really has this entitled thing going on and well, I'm out doing the work for me and mine. I have been very generous to her MANY times in the past. I'd rather it be my idea to share if I want... and I no longer do right now. OK. I feel empowered ;) mahalo all!

So I went to check the mail @ PO Box -with my mask on of course- on my moped/scooter yester-noon. It was WARM here. I thought to myself that I had not done a serious scoot in awhile so I should head a few miles down the road to give my battery a good charge. There were hardly any cars on the road as I headed up Mana way and I could check out the alfalfa fields and dramatic backdrop. I knew I had put gas in not to long ago and had not ridden my scooter much so PROBABLY had enough to play no prob. Scooter is 12 yo and gauge is broke. It was wonderful, I forget how house locked I get and the feel of the fresh air on my face was divine. Ocean on one side, mountains on the other... ahhh. I went past the PMRF 1st entrance and the bird sanctuary was just another 1/2 mile. Wish I would have brought my phone so I could have taken photos for you folks. It was nice to be out. So, I start on my way back home after a brief pause at the sanctuary, about 3.5 miles from home and scooter sputters... I think... nooo... cant be... then more sputters... and I'm like NOOOO... cant be... lol. Then sputters to a stop of course... RATS. No phone, no people... oh but it was peaceful and magnificent. That lasted for about 2 minutes then these awesome young gals pulled over and let me use their phone to call DH and ask him to bring me some gas. he he he! My take away- all adventures are pretty awesome and it is nice to be able to still run out of gas and survive. Reminded me of my youth lol when I could just go with it and had less need for control. Well, it was fun while it lasted... my little moment of freedom he he he.

Got to cut up some Ti leaf. We are building a pad outside of aunties home for a watertank and need to move some stuff. No gardening, too hot, only water and play with birds.

I almost have all the chicks sold that I am going to sell, then I will be making decisions on the bigger kids.

Aloha all, stay well and safe!
