What did you do in the garden today?

That’s the plan, I bake a lot so I’ll be substituting some of the regular flour with it. Might try to make some “coffee” with it or apparently you can make ice cream and beer also so that’ll be an interesting project. Especially since I was already thinking about making wild dewberry mead, since I have about six gallons from May and I’m going to need the space for my fall produce. And I’m in Central Texas.
Oh a Texan! We do have a thread too. My dog's eat all our Mesquite beans and most have been parasatized already as they have holes in the beans/pods. I use the Texas thread for Rambling musings feel free to join us https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/texas.44/page-4608#post-22835085

Pretty! Welcome to the thread. Those little fences wouldn't keep my birds out of anything. They mow it over!
Yeah, mine can fly over them, but since they don’t have a good place to perch on their way over, they are less inclined to. I have 5 acres. Just need to ‘deter’ them from pooping on the porch and sitting/scratching in the flower bed. Wouldn’t trust my veggies to that type of fence 😋

Aargh! Racoon saga continues. Nothing on cams for 2 nights, then last night we get a large raccoon - or maybe more than one. A cat and then an unknown predator - another cat? a opossum? @WthrLady or anyone else - any thoughts? It's irritating bc my chickens aren't laying very well right now, probably due to predator stress.

What is this one? not sure what a opossum would look like and if they run like this.

Looks like a cat? I don't recognize this cat, it it is... Maybe its too big for a cat? Not many dogs around here. Too light for a coyote.

Murderous racoon.

I vote meercat. Weasilish looking thing.

Raccoon saga. Caught 2 last night. One was quite large! Neighbor also caught one. So, 8 coons in about 6 nights. They murdered more chickens that that, when they wiped out my neighbor’s flock.

lots of digging around the run fence... the coons are not welcome here!
How long have you lived there? That's insane! Do you have a skirt to keep diggers out of the run?

Good morning gardeners. Welcome to the thread @Sooner Magnolia. The scattered shower yesterday turned out to be a few spits of rain drops in the afternoon. Today we are supposed to get real rain. The forecast is for heavy rains south of me so look out @Sueby, you may actually get a drenching today. I watered the vegetable gardens yesterday despite the forecast. So far the onions I put in with the carrots, lettuce & cabbage seems to have worked as of yesterday. I haven't checked this morning. I'm going to try to get the backyard mowed this morning as soon as the dew dries. I've been letting it grow to seeding and it looks pretty good so far. I only planted two summer squash plants but now I know which is which. The largest one is the zucchini and the smaller one is the yellow squash. Each plant has a tiny squash developing. The peas are still blooming well and the few bush beans I planted are starting to bloom. My little cherry tomato plants are producing blooms. Normally I pinch them off until the plant gets taller, but I think I'll let them go for now. This is the first time I have planted my garden so late, and am really impressed with how quickly everything grew. I think this year has been a lesson in patience. As for fencing around the property, my main vegetable garden is fenced and the new bed I put in the backyard along with the 2 herb beds are surrounded by lattice. For some reason my chickens respect the lattice and don't snack on those plants. I hope you get all the racoons dispatched soon @Acre4Me. That has to be distressing. I've not had a problem (knock on wood) except for the occasional visit of a hungry groundhog or bunny. I found out my neighbor across the street has been trapping critters and releasing them elsewhere. Too bad he can't trap my other neighbor's cats that stalk birds and chipmunks and crap in my garden. Oh well, there has to be something to complain about besides the weather. Have a great day everyone.

Oh wow I didn’t think about giving them to my dogs. I’m hoping that doesn’t happen to me, but the seasons just beginning for me. I’m actually already on that thread.

Morning gardeners. Nothing to do in the garden today except keep my fingers crossed. We had 3 inches of rain over the last 2 days so it is all watered. My artichokes are still in 2-10 gallon containers and hanging on for dear life during these hot months. The cantaloupe are doing good but my cherry tomatoes are looking rough. I have some that are developing but they aren't even coin sized. I am thinking of getting the mortgage lifters started so they can produce before the potential late December cool down.

here for 2.5 years. No coon evidence before this year. No skirt, but that’s bc we plan to redo the fence around the run and enlarge it. However, the chain link goes about 8” or more below the ground bc we raised the dirt and added a whole lot of now-compacted chipped wood. The new shed, intended for meat chickens or breeding trips or turkeys will have a skirt -already planned for before this coon craziness!

What did you do in your garden today?

I picked a bunch of Rattlesnake green beans and Cherokee wax beans, a few tomatoes, three eggplants, some broccoli shoots, and jalapenos. Pretty happy with today's harvest!

Weeded (neverending story) then added more cardboard for said weed control. Pruned zukes, yellow squash, and tied up more cuke vines. Also picked cow horn, jalapeno, and Anaheim peppers, looked for bugs on broccoli, and found none (yay Neem oil)!! Now I need to figure out how to control these sweet potato vines since it is my 1st time growing them.
