What did you do in the garden today?

Just looked - yes, it will heat up next week, but today will be mid-80s then Sun/Mon/Tues look fairly cool with tomorrow's high at 77F! So, my July Planting will need to occur in the next few days. My plan is to plant more bush beans (for green beans), a couple more summer squash plants, Brussel sprouts and cabbage, and beets. Will dig up the potato bed (red and yellow potatoes), but not the white potatoes as the plants haven't really died back yet. So, the potato bed can be replanted with beans and beets, perhaps. I looked at a packet of garden peas, and it says I can plant them in August for a fall harvest, so I'll try that next month!
I can attest to Midwest heat. 96 degrees here now. Projected to reach 98. High 90's all week...well, 92 one day.

I believe you did mention you have an epi pen @NightingaleJen or am I mistaken? If you don’t have one, please get one. I’ve started going into anaphylactic shock from an allergic reaction and it is wicked serious. The temps and humidity were pretty bad today. Remember, this is New England and we’re known for our winter weather. A lot of men run around in Bermuda shorts when the temps are in the 30’s here. I’ll at least put a hoodie on. But for today we did get some relief from the winds leftover from the tropical storm. After I sat with the chickens for their “free ranging” and fed, watered and cleaned the coops I retreated to my living room with the AC blasting. I don’t do well with the high temps so little work gets done. Wishing all of you in the heat dome the very best.

Good afternoon! Welcome to the thread newbies. I got everything soaked with garlic juice last night and flooded the hibiscus this morning. It's so darn hot I only got 3 eggs yesterday, poor girls. Had to run across the valley to pick up my new work equipment, stopped at TSC for feed and permethrin, swung by the grocery store for a few things and met my son back at my house so he could drop off Kevin. Kevin will be neutered and live with HopTart who is already spayed.

My daughter will be turning 30 on Monday so we're celebrating today. Have a great evening all!

I do, yes, thanks. Actually need to pull it out and just keep it in my gardening apron! I'll do that tonight, actually...yes, this reaction is pretty much one step below that. It's crazy! Maybe instead of a chicken coop we should be building gigantic bat coops. 🦇 🦇 🦇

Seems like we are all in the middle of a heat wave. It's in the mid-80s here today, which feels downright cool after the past ten days! Of course that good steady stiff breeze helps, too. We are thankful for the break, believe me!

Those rabbits are so cute, @igorsMistress! Enjoy the birthday get-together! I hope you have *ice cream* cake. ;)

And almost 70% humidity. Glad to have central air conditioning!
That's been our whole month of June and most of July. The day we brought the hay from the field it was hell on earth. And the humidity. OMG.

Beans are in the canner.

Spaghetti sauce is on the stove.

I need to mow tomorrow.

I didn't get around to making the bread, maybe tomorrow. The men go through it so fast, it drive me bonkers.

Garden looking good. Neither of the Boston Marrow Melons made it. Too hot. Still trying to figure out of cabbage moths got into the cabbages to lay eggs. DH says he thinks they laid eggs on the screening and when they hatched the babies simply fell into the cabbages. IDK.

Pruned all the tomato plants. They are due to be fed this week.
My garden isn't as lush as most as I prune, and we're fighting some wicked heat, but there it is.

Cheesecake. We've had ice cream cake recently, my grandson has a bday in June.

Thank you so much! With just the two of us I'll cut this recipe down but I can't wait to try it.
It's also called, "Love in a Mist" and isn't that just a lovely name? We used to grow them when we we doing dried flowers. The seeds are crazy. :)
but it is absolutely best to always store home-canned goods without the rings on. Should the jar unseal for any reason (none of them good!), if the ring is still on, it can actually help the lid re-seal, and you never know there is a problem until it is potentially too late. So please, please keep them off the jars in the pantry!
I will do that, I was still waffling but you just decided me.
but don't recall ever seeing a canning recipe...what about chopping it up and freezing it?
Going to blanch and freeze some and make some chips as well, but thanks for offering!

Was lazy today, didn't get anything more done than what was done this morning. I'm a morning person and that's just the best time of day to garden. Great jobs everyone, and love all the pictures!
