What did you do in the garden today?

Good evening gardeners. I worked today and afterward set up an addition to the bunny habitat. It's not totally done yet but we're getting there. Tossed the litter into the garden and called it a day. We're having Chinese for dinner from a local shop that has killer shrimp lo mein. Tomorrow will be a day to get caught up outside. Funny that when I was laid off from my old job it took me a while to get used to all the time I had. Now I'm trying to get used to having a schedule! Anyway, I'll leave you with some pics of the bunny habit, have a great night!

Nice job @igorsMistress! Your bun should be very happy!
Then I went to check on the green beans we planted Monday , looks like they are pushing through .
I love when you can just see them breaking the ground, before the actual shoot comes out.
Very nice pics @MrLeeHo, thanks for sharing!

Still no rain nor anytime soon so watered everything, DP discovered the dogs were really covered in fleas so fast bath followed by all pet bedding inside and out getting washed and dried hot. Got some spray for their beds and kennels, and DP applied flea killer to the dogs. Red letter day for the poor things.

Yesterday we went to a native plant nursery and picked up a bunch of native plants we'd been having trouble getting our hands on. Several specifically for the sandy bluff area. Got the mowing done today, and I'll do the weed eating tomorrow. Got some of the stupic tomatoes and a couple Serrano peppers up-potted, late I know but fall is pretty mild here so I'll keep swinging.

I might get up at o'dark:30 in the morning tomorrow to go fishing. I'm exhausted right now so we'll see if I'm that energetic. Sweet dreams gardeners!

@NightingaleJen , heelers are herding dogs. Blue merle collies bred with Australian dingos. Amazing cattle dogs and incredibly brave.

Well, that explains why I like them, then! For some reason I had them categorized as working dogs, not herding. And of course a dog like that needs a job and to be kept busy. *sigh* Oh, I wish people would spend time learning about the needs of the animal(s) they bring into their home and take that information seriously...! (Not talking about you or anyone on the thread.) Sorry your rescue, Toby, had issues. Poor guy!

@Sooner Magnolia & @AllenK RGV, we made a point of keeping our collie Ben, busy, but it was never wise to not immediately throw away a tissue after using it...set it down for a millisecond and he was tearing it to shreds!

I love sunflowers. My favorite flowers actually, darn those rotten varmints! Yay for chicks, what kind?

Ruth Stout is basically that, yeah. Drop the seed on the ground for soil contact and cover. I usually add a thin layer of dirt to keep the seeds where I want them, and I'm not using that much mulch, maybe 6 to 8 inches. ...AZ is on the same plant delivery schedule as everyone else but ideally we should be planting in mid February. Then we have plants available all summer long but it's just too hot. Not logical.

Ah well, At least I have one sunflower—no, two! The wild birds planted one for us! That one hasn't bloomed yet, though. We're getting Dominiques, Black Australorps, and EEs. :) I am getting so excited!

Thanks for the further explanation. I can't imagine a deeper mulch than what you use! Usually I have 4-6" cover and actually unintentionally grabbed a little snake with my bare hands moving the straw aside! Happily he was not venomous, and we were also mutually startled by one another, so off he zipped. I would definitely not want a deeper mulch. *shudder* And you are right about the delivery schedule...that's just poor marketing. They'd probably sell a lot more plants if they shipped them more sensibly...!

Nice new bun home, too! So cute!

Oooo, a Moon & Stars melon, @Acre4Me! Have always wanted to grow those. They all look beautiful! So does that pie...Michigan sour cherries...nectar of the motherland! ;) Also, that caterpillar looks more like a teeny snake. Just saying.

Your garden is beautiful, @MrLeeHo! Especially those peppers. Not sure about your onions...they look okay to me, but it has been a while since I've grown them. Welcome to the thread!

Happy fishing should you choose to head out, @NewBoots! It has been so hot here all of the fishermen are miserable. Miserable enough to hit the golf course.

Not much in the garden here today. Watered the containers and bed before we shocked the well. Took a peek and everybody looks happy in the bed. :) I did yank that cherry tomato out and tossed it onto the grounds of our future orchard...world's laziest soil improvement. It never seemed sick, just...blossomless. Something else gets to go in that spot instead. Soaking some pea & beet seeds to plant along with some other things in the morning, before it gets hot again! One of my new nasturtium varieties finally began to open its bloom today; will try and get a picture tomorrow (along with the name, which I've forgotten). It's a sort of pinky-carmine hue and very pretty!

Good morning gardeners. Yesterday was gloriously mild, sunny and cool. Today is the first day of our heat wave. The garden is doing well. I picked what is likely the last of the peas this morning. I also got another handful of bush beans. I have one bloom on my butternut squash plant. A bee was buried in it sucking all the nectar out of it. The jalapenos continue to grow and my cucumber and tomato plants are loaded with tiny to little fruit. I gave my chickens some of the pea greens yesterday. Not that crazy about them. Spoiled! I've never seen a little worm like that @Acre4Me, but it sure is pretty. Hopefully it won't eat that much. Gee @igorsMistress, your bunny's room looks nicer than my first apartment back in the day. Very nice! So today I'm off to the grocery store, then will mow the front yard. I'm loading up on ice cubes and picking up a few things for cook-free dinners for the next few days. Not to sound like a commercial, but Seresto collars are the best darn things for flea and tick control. Don't buy them from your vet, get them at your feed store, much cheaper. No more fleas and ticks. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning gardeners. I've been out to water and now we're getting a few sprinkles. There's a lot of blue sky but one cloud is dropping water as it passes over. I think the mint and both Plumbago are done for, but I watered them anyway. Angus was doing a good job of chasing one of the girls this morning so I think the bumblefoot is on the way out; I'll check him tonight. The temps will be down below 110 next week, that'll be a nice respite for the flock. The buns are enjoying their enclosure quite a bit, even Kevin came out and he's still getting used to us. They are so darn sweet ❤ I've drawn up plans for the garden, now I just need to decide what to plant together and finish filling up the bed. We cut off the tops of the kiddie pools and I think I might push those down into the ground leaving the lip at the soil surface, then fill with some good dirt and plant the lettuces in the shade garden. Then I can use the beds in there for other things. I'd like to put carrots in there again and grow for a couple of years so I can harvest seeds. I've never done a lot of seed saving so it'll be something new to try. I need to turn on the hose for the oleanders and get some touch up painting done today. Enjoy!

We had a break through this morning , or at least the beans did , they broke through to the light . :gig

The boys and grandma and I dumped another 3 of the potato tubs and collected about another 20 lbs of taters . I've got em drying off now in the shed with a fan going on low just to keep the air moving . I'll give some to my daughter and maybe can some .
Too hot and humid for anymore work today , going to hit the pool and then the A/C
