What did you do in the garden today?

Winter Garden update:

Before I can fully enclose it I need to have a vent fan operational so today I built a platform and I started at day break right after I let the chickens out.

I woke up early and took a picture of the corner the exhaust fan would go and took the picture inside and studied at may computer to come up with a platform design.

When the sun came up I started cutting wood to fit fan base.

When the foundation was built I put up the fan to see if there was enough top clearance to put the platform on the foundation.

I decided to put in a support for the near corner

Finished up the project by 9:30. and can spend the rest of the day tending to chickens and rabbit.

Good afternoon gardeners. I watered a bit today and checked on the herbs and fairy dusters. I need to get some of the shade cloth off the thing I have protecting the one in the ground as I think it’s getting too much shade. I’m going to move the others so they’re getting unfiltered sun for a while longer also. I watered the grass and stirred the litter in the coop. After the flock goes to bed I’m going to wash all the waterers and fill the feeder after I spray off the patio. It’s a mess because they’re hanging out in the shade there. Our temps look to be improving, I’ve got my fingers crossed this is accurate

Oooo, what is that first flower? It's lovely. And is that a picture of the new boy? Looks like he is out in the open now so he;s more confident?

Just watered today in the garden but I did receive more shallots so I need to get my behind out there and get these planted. I made and canned 6 pints of salsa and made another pint of fresh salsa. I love the fresh stuff, always so much liquid that I can drain it off and drink it over ice like a virgin bloody mary. I've chopped so many peppers today my finger are tingling.

Oh! And I opened the cowboy candy today and they are so delicious! I just ate some alone but it would be great on a burger.

funny mental picture. Made me laugh!

we have a number of luffa on the vine. Some quite large. However, various online opinions as to harvest and drying and success with luffa. Some say, must dry or at least begin to brown and dry on vine. However, it was either @Kiwibird or @TropicalBabies that indicated picking green and drying it off vine was ok, as long as the luffa felt firm while still green. Of course, need plenty of airflow. There was one YouTube video that was interesting, but the person clearly was a bit ADD in her garden...video was on luffa, but every 5 seconds she’d be distracted by some other plant in the garden, then go off on a tangent about that....then remember she was supposed to be focused on luffa. However, she had several stages of luffa and what I found interesting was how WET they are. She had some that she had peeled -guessing when green- and had the white fibrous inside hanging from a clothesline, and it was really wet and dripping!! Anyway, my guess is that if the fibers are present, it’s really all about drying and trying to prevent mold/mildew. Inspect every few days and employ a bleach solution as needed.

maybe, instead of toothbrushes @littledog, maybe they can be facial scrubs or simply travel sized luffa!
Yes, my friend waits until they feel "woody", peels green, washes the flesh away from the fibres and dries the exposed fibre on the clothes line. It seems the distractible person in the video you found had similar methods.

Yes the new roo is becoming more confident and the lady in charge seems to like him pretty well. The first flower is on a Pride of Barbados plant. Love those!
