What did you do in the garden today?

@igorsMistress are the eggs in the incubator? How long will they take to brew?

Morning all. Snow is melting away, supposed to rain shortly, that should take care of the rest of it. DH is out blowing & mowing leaves around the snow. :gig

I broke down & bought an auto door for the little coop. :yesss: These girls are much younger than they were supposed to be & came 2 months later so they will be in the little coop till spring, not much I can do about that but can make it easier on myself. We are also going to cut a big hole in the back of it & put in some plexiglass for light, it's too dark in there.

Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday!
Yes, they aren’t due to hatch until around Thanksgiving, 28 days. I’ve wanted an auto door for a long time. Lucky!

Finishing up my third load of laundry. The bread dough is slowing rising. Hope to get outside early to let the girls run before it rains. Tomorrow is forecasted to be coldly and windy so I think I need to hang some of the shower curtains to block the wind in the chicken run. I’ve been leaving the old pop door open on the coop itself as the run is secure. I’ve been making my rooster go into his coop at night then closing his door. Apparently I did not come out early enough this morning so he figured out he can just kick the door open. That’s convenient. I’m looking forward to the dry weather later this week to get outside and get back to cleaning up. Have a great day everyone.

I'm picturing a rooster making a Dirty Harry kicks down the door move. :)

@penny1960, we voted to (heaven help me) stay in daylight savings time permanently but we're still changing our clocks this morning.

If I get all my chores done today we'll have either Chinese or Japanese food for dinner tonight. These chores include but are not limited to: pick up dog doots, mow the lawn, plant the chicken greens (done), water, move the last of the compost, put the tomato vines in the bin and stomp them into submission, clean out the coop, clean the chicken cups, and plant some fall crops in the greenhouse. Weeeeee! I wrote them all here to hold my nose to the grindstone.

Good golly, I’m worn out from reading your “to do” list. And yes, that’s how I imagined he kicked the door open. He was probably afraid I forgot about him.

We got our first snowfall of the season today. It has been snowing all day, and we have a light dusting on the ground. Thank goodness my dad was thoughtful enough to cover my garden in leaves!
Also, I picked these when they were all green because I pulled all my tomato plants a few weeks back. I used the ones that had ripened last week, and left all the green ones. Well, they decided to (mostly) ripen, so I'm using them today! God certainly designed plants and nature really cool!

I'm going to sauté these herbs in butter, then cook the steaks in the herbed butter tonight. Yum!

Due to a massive headache I fell behind on my gardening. Kept the Chickens and Rabbits watered/fed though. Last night I cut back the Jalapeños for the greenhouse and it lead to a Crispers filled to the brim with just Jalapeños. Not sure how I am going preserve them.

I took some pictures in the greenhouse:

@Swiss, same thing happened with a bunch of my thoroughly green tomatoes, a bunch of them ripened all the way. I picked a bunch of the potted ones with some color and put them in the garage, hoping for them to ripen like the last batch did. :fl When I moved the pile of tomato vines I'd pulled a week ago and just left lying on the lawn, there were a lot of cherry tomatoes that had ripened too. I gave them to the chickens but I think they're about done with tomatoes for the year. They ate them but casually rather than enthusiastically.

Well I didn't get everything done, the mowing, and various compost bin tasks are done but I'm too tired and sore for much else. So I'll make some baked sweet potato fries and sliders (got both in the freezer) for dinner tonight instead of the Chinese or Japanese take out. I need to take a hand-full of ibuprofen first, when I was walking out to pick the tomatoes, I tripped on the garden hose and face planted on the gravel in front of the chicken run. I'm fine, just had to lay there and think about it a minute, checking to see if I was really hurt. I wasn't and DP helped me up so I could go in and scrub the grit out of my hands. Glad I hadn't already picked the tomatoes, I threw the produce bin about 6'. The ladies did really enjoy the lawn clippings, I always give them the greenest, lushest grass and clover from the mower bag.

I hope you’re still feeling ok tomorrow!
