What did you do in the garden today?

Hey all.

@jerryse sorry to hear about your grandson. I hope he is ok. I'm curious how long it's been since you had it. The CDC says 3 months of immunity after, but it doesn't seem like it's been that long for you.

I was outside staring at the garden today, thinking about what seeds to order. I'm thinking of just doing lettuce, garlic, onions, green beans & herbs. The squash & cuke bugs were so frustrating this year I think I may just skip it all next year.

I picked up my terra cotta bird bath from my sisters house, got it all cleaned out & new dirt in it & got the lettuce planted. I hope it does ok inside. I put a couple chives in the middle too.

I asked the neighbor for his pumpkins for the chickens, he gave us 2 big boxes of moldy gourds that promptly I threw in the compost, lol. Why would I feed my birds mold? :smack People think they eat anything & everything - including old, moldy crap.

Hope ya'll have a great weekend! Seems like we're gonna get some snow tomorrow.
We were tested 10-28 . Wife was positive and I was negative . I showed symptoms 5 days later . She was quarantined until 11-7 and I until 11-15 . We seemed to recover . Then I thought I had a cold this past week . However I felt bad and rested yesterday . Felt better by bedtime . Just like when covid was over . I now think covid flared up . The grandson would have had it about the same time . So it seems it takes longer to recover or it flares up again . So much is not known .

Interesting! You're right, so much unknown about it. I have friends that had 0 symptoms & ones that were very sick & still have lingering issues months later. Best of luck to you and yours, how is your grandson now?

Good morning gardeners. And no, I didn't fall off the face of the earth. I've been super busy trying to get the house ready for DD to move in. She has all her stuff here and spent her first night. With the Covid nightmare getting worse here, I'm glad she was able to make it to my bubble here. At least she can walk outside and not risk being exposed to covid. Every community in our state is now "labeled" as high risk for covid. And I whole heartedly agree with you @ChocolateMouse, the lower income folks suffer even more because their only options are to go to work and risk exposure or get layed off. I really am wishing you all the very best to stay healthy, especially you @jerryse. As far as next year's garden @Sueby, I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to make your garden plan just yet. As I learned last year, the bugs follow the heat. If we go back to a more "normal" temperature range the bugs should not be as bad. I'm still going to look into purchasing beneficial bugs. I'm hoping @Compost King is just fine. He does drop out occasionally. Life does get busy at times. I'm curious how his "winter garden" is doing. Well, it is pouring rain here right now. My contractor said Mother Nature is cooperating and testing out the new window well he installed to stop the leak in my basement. Fingers crossed. The forecast is for the rain to change to snow soon then leave us with 10 to 15 inches of heavy wet snow. I am so glad I got the snowblower running and DD picked up pet friendly melty stuff at the local Walmart. Life is good (at least as long as the basement leak is fixed). Have a great day everyone. And if you need a quick pick me up just look at @igorsMistress darling ducklings. How can you not smile?

Nothing much garden wise....except I have to move all my garden seeds and mini greenhouse out of the way to make room for the Christmas tree. Just never got around to it at the end of the season, then stopped "seeing" it bc I was so used to it being there. It is on a raised area before stepping down into a large great room - right next to the south facing doors onto the private deck, so it makes a perfect spot for seeds/young plants in the spring, and for the tree at Christmas time! Anyway, kid wants to get the tree up, so I gotta get my stuff up and out of the way!

I ordered and received some seeds from Seed Savers. Likely will order a few more seeds, but not in need of too much - mostly need insect netting for the cabbage items - the cabbage loopers were unreal this year - terrible, hungry things! Of course the squash bugs were bad, but didn't cause as much trouble as the cabbage loopers. If we can keep the cabbage looper moth OFF the plants, we might get some garden results from the brassica family. I'll need to assess my squash bug approach next season... might have to increase the vigilance and response, but its second priority.

Good afternoon gardeners. I got the rest of the bushes watered out back, gave the ducklings their new “pool” and trimmed the Italian parsley and a little bit of dill for them and the bunnies. We’ve been working on acclimating the ducks to us and they’re coming along quite well. This afternoon I took my granddaughter out to meet them and they came up and hopped onto her lap for a minute. Here’s a couple pics from today

SO CUTE ! I can't stand it!
========
New truck picked up and 'Paid' for.
Ventured out long enough to run 3 errands, couldn't stand the Christmas traffic or crowds, and came home.
Nothing yard or garden related today.
Blondies in the oven.
Dog sleeping on the sofa.
Sunny and 50s this next week, still no rain. Not complaining though. It's december, it COULD be ugly out, but it's not.
