I agree on the customer service from Burpee. It’s not at all good. Southern is ok, but it made me angry that they charged me extra for a fall order. Um, excuse me but that’s when you plant garlic! So not going back there but others may have had a better experience. I really like Native Seed Search. They have many heirloom varieties and excellent germination rates. They are a desert seed co but I imagine the seeds would do ok anywhere if you have the growing season for them. I don’t know about customer service though, I’ve never called them. I’ve heard many good things about Gurney.

That’s odd about southern exposure I don’t remember being charged extra for a fall order. They do charge extra for heavy items like garlic and potatoes though but I think most places do. I’ll have to look up native seed search though they sound interesting.

A while back some popular seed sources were mentioned. Seed Savers, Burpee, etc. But, there was one that several mentioned, But I cant find the part of the thread where this was discussed and I didn't save the link. I'm pretty sure that site is where I found something I wanted to purchase, but I need a name reminder! So what sources do you use for seeds?

@karenerwin I really hope your bread turned out well, I to have been trying to get the nerve to start making bread. The most recent bread machine I got is a piece of expensive junk and I really want to make stuffed bread balls and cinnamon rolls. I just will have to suck it up and jump in I guess.

I get my seeds from Burpee, Eden Bros, and Amazon mostly and I've no real complaints. 29 here last night and we have the most frost I've seen since we got here a year and a half ago. The ladies are enjoying their seedling tray and even sharing pretty well. They got warm yogurt with oatmeal yesterday (a big favorite). We might get takeout Chinese food tonight, I'll have to see if the place in Reedsport is open today and we'll open presents tonight. My family did so every year and I think they were brilliant, that way us kids weren't waking them at the crack of dawn X-mas day, we were quietly playing with our new things. The stockings were for X-mas day. It also meant that the person cooking the big holiday meal could do so after a good night's sleep.

I use mostly High Mowing for heirlooms and open pollinated, but also I use Seeds'N'Such for hybrid tomatoes.

Finally, got most of the strawberry plants in the ground. Spent most of yesterday making hills for them since it wasn’t supposed to rain until tonight. Unfortunately the forecast was wrong and we got 1.5 inches overnight. Luckily the hills weren’t completely flat this morning. Got 24 more plants in the ground and 8 more in holding pots until the ground dries enough to make more hills. This is in addition to the original 8 (40 plants in total). I’ll go out to cover them soon since we’re getting a hard freeze tonight. Hopefully they make it.
The rosemary and kiwi I started indoors have sprouted and I’ll try to get photos of them later this week.

@karenerwin I made the fudge...must have done something wrong cuz it’s crumbly. Boo!

You can fix it. Little water, little cream and heat it back up again. Either your chocolate broke or you had sugar crystal formation. I add a tablespoon of Kayro syrup to help with the crystal problem.

Thanks for the tips! I’ll be sure to remember this if my chocolate fudge has issues! I made liver bait fudge for the dogs using the recipe Karen shared.
