What did you do in the garden today?

Hi, gardeners. Been lurking a bit; thought I'd jump in and say hi.

Garden porn catalogs keeps me going until I can start seeds in March/April.

I planted borage as a pollinator friendly plant two years ago. It self seeded nilly willy. The bees love it! The chickens liked the little seedlings. They didn't like the leaves when they got bigger, as they have a stiff "fur" texture. The plants do get big, so I'm relegating it to by the fence only.

Waiting for spring... I miss playing in the dirt. Waiting for eggs... miss my homegrown omelets.

I can't imagine. Buffalo Burr, a nightshade member, kills horses pets and other livestock.

But apparently Goats head weed, they use it in Chinese medicine for libido and angina.
Angina, so heart! Yes, I remembered something about the heart and that weed, didn’t know about Chinese medicine and libido until I went to read more about it. Interesting what we find down a rabbit hole sometimes lol.

Not much going on here. Spent they day butchering the deer. It had 3 broken legs. 😢 Also, I am a very slow butcherer. (And my shoulders are tired :lau:idunno). I am sharing a good deal of the deer with a friend of my son's. He has been trying to get a deer but hasn't been successful and their freezer is getting empty. He has a wife and 3 kids so I know it will be put to good use. The chickens got all the odd bits and pieces.

It says, "the largest concern from this invading species is its ability to inflict burns to skin of people that come into contact with the sap from the plant." I didn't know that. I sure hope the domestic version doesn't have the same properties.

I didn't know it was a wild parsnip. I never got burnt and I weeded some of them without gloves. domestic parsnip is ok.

I'm laughing at the chickens getting the bits. I have a friend that swears chickens are vegetarians. I told her they eat bugs and snakes and I'm pretty sure that if there were enough of them, my flock would happily take out a cow for the amount they like steak scraps.

I showed her a photo of them finishing off a turkey carcass, the chicken was most of the way in the cavity, and she was mortified. But said, get this..... that that stuff was already dead, they didn't kill it, so it doesn't count. Um ok sweetie..... Bless her heart. Sigh.

Welcome!

Good morning gardeners. I got up and watered. I was a bit late doing it but it got done.
I have never ordered from Gurneys before but so far I’m happy with their customer service. My seed potatoes have shipped and I actually got a text with tracking info,
Have a great day all!
