What did you do in the garden today?

Time to go through my notebook and check my leftover seed from last year. I need to tidy the greenhouse and get some sugar snap peas started, and that means getting the pea bed cleaned up and the netting ordered. I used fencing last year but the holes were too small to make harvesting convenient.

This looks awesome!
ON a separate note, my garden is quite a ways from any buildings or water source. Right now I am using 4 or 5 hoses to get water to the garden when I need it. I"m thinking about setting up a couple of these DIY collection systems as a supplement.

They are the old fashioned standby, hearty, proven as reliable tomatoes in the greater Ohio Valley Zone. Early girl is what I would pick if I had to pick of the two.
Cherokee purple was hit or miss for me as well as the Krims when I lived in Ohio.
Yeah, I'm definitely considering Early Girl.

I've not had Black Krim yet, but I agree on the Cherokee Purple, based on last year. Definitely poor yield and cracking. It seemed fairly blight-resistant, though, so as long as it doesn't spread disease to my other tomatoes, I'll keep a couple for flavour. Black variety and cherry tomatoes are for my own amusement, rather than workhorse purposes. I'm not planning on more than two of any of those varieties.

Now, I was impressed with the Burpee Supersteak. There is something really cool about being able to fill a quart jar with one tomato. Unfortunately, it's a little too big. (I may yield to the temptation to plant one or two, since I do still have seeds.) Supersteak Hybrids were nice, and that is why I'm planting them again this year. Great canned tomatoes.

OK here is a dumb question. When or should I put out pre emergent weed killer here in east Texas-near Dallas. A lot of weeds do not appear to have died yet although the grass is brown. Or should I wait til March and put out a general weed killer?
You have a long growing season so 2 applications about 3 months apart . Pre emergent stops seeds sprouting but wears off in time . Glyphosphate - roundup for weeds that did not die in winter .

I found a bunch of leftover seeds from last year. They were tucked away in the junk drawer. Oops!
While they were not stored in ideal conditions I'm sure, I'll have to see if they sprout. Some of them are the same type of seed I purchased for this year. I could've saved a little money. Oh well, too late now.

Any ideas for storing old seeds?
I was thinking paper envelopes in a tin can or small wooden box. Would little plastic bags be better to prevent them from drying out or getting access to moisture? I want to start storing my own open-pollenated heirloom seeds too, so I'll need a solution that can old a bunch of seeds in a small space. Can I just keep them on a shelf in the garage (heating during the winter) or should I keep them in the refrigerator? I don't want seeds all over, so I need one space that will work for most.
