What did you do in the garden today?

I pulled up the crop calculator and I'm perplexed by it - hoping maybe you can help, if you dont mind

I put in 1 for me. SO doesnt eat veg really. Anyway, i find it hard to believe that one person needs 12 watermelon plants. :lau am I missing something?

Hey! I like this! It says one person needs 7 tomato plants, too! If I factor in my whole family, it should get me pretty close to 75...

Would love to know what apps you guys are using.... I looked for a decent app last spring that, at a minimum, would allow me to document when I watered certain plants as well as add oop-up reminders to my phone when I needed to water, fertilize, etc... Wasn't able to find anything like that. Honestly considered writing my own app altogether but I simply didn't have time.

Sooo.....sounds like some of you have done a lot more digging than what I did. Anyone got a good one to share?
I currently just have repeating reminders in google calendar. you can set like "water orchid" as a reminder that repeats weekly and it will pop up every 7 days. I also have "water succulents" as a recurring. it's not a fancy garden app, but its not too bad. you can set- I believe- any frequency of repeating & you can either set it to run out at the end of the season or delete "this event and all following events" whenever you're done with it

Actually, I think you misinterpreted it. It says 12 POUNDS which would be 1 watermelon, right??? :)

ETA...maybe it is expecting that your other 11 plants will die from fungus....lol.

I actually do that right now with feeding my vanilla orchid. But I was hoping to not have to set it up for every single plant, but have the option to automate it for each plant species/variety. I guess I'm asking for too much, eh? lol....

Would also be great if you could factor in the weather. In other words, if you can somehow input when or how much it rains so it would adjust your watering/feeding schedule accordingly.

Again...maybe I'm just thinking pie in the sky.

Good afternoon gardeners. Got my seed potatoes the other day from Gurneys, just waiting on some new grow bags to get here. I didn’t like the ones I used last year, the soil stayed too wet. I’m waiting to see what sprouts in the pots in the wagon and after putting those in and the potatoes I think I’m done until next year. We are already going to have a couple warm days in the upper 70s and we should be having frost threats instead. The garden expansion is under way though and then we need to put up the walls to keep the ducks out of there. I can toss in bunny poop and dirt when I feel like it into the expansion area over the summer to prep for next fall. The garlic is going crazy and the strawberries are looking ok still. The ducks pool is in so going to get that. Have a great night all.

Chickens! They need watermelons too!

that's the other thing. it thinks 1 watermelon plant makes 1 lb of watermelon....or that the other 11 plants die, yep.

I planted 5 watermelon plants last year and got 0 watermelon, so maybe they have a point.....

honestly it is probably not outside the realm of possibility but I suspect it would be on a paid version only haha

I can relate. I planted 3 watermelon plants. Only one went on to thrive during the growing season. It produced two softball sized watermelons which split. The 2nd plant suddenly decided to take off like a rocket right around mid-November..... Good old mother nature nipped that one in the bud pretty quickly.

So essentially, I also got ZERO watermelons. I am going to try again this year but with a different variety.
